The Portfolio Project has launched for this year! Please join your fellow members and create your own portfolio. Just send us (see Board Contacts) a message and we’ll add you to the list.
For any photographer Portfolio is a good opportunity to hone your skills and learn the art of self-critique. Your portfolio will be a collection of photographs that are representative of your skills and interests, and club members of all skill levels are encouraged to participate.
What is a portfolio and why create one? In the portfolio project you create a body of work on a specific subject. As a photographer it is important to learn to identify your strongest images. This idea of working a subject/concept, to gain the best images you can, is the crux of the Portfolio Project.
To see what members have done in past years go to: https://nvps.smugmug.com/NVPSGallery/PortfolioProject on the club website. Be sure to click on older galleries as the project goes back to the 2007-2008 season. One of the fun and exciting aspects of the portfolio is the scope and variety of subject matter. It has been an honor and treat over the years to see what our members will think of for their projects.
One important aspect of Portfolio is that it is not a competition. These projects are a personal journey, and although we will be having a preliminary review to offer suggestions and a final review to present your finished projects to the club, your work is not compared to the others. Each portfolio is reviewed on its own merits.
There are two reviews during the project, preliminary and final. For the last two years, roughly 40 people signed up for the project, so we made two groups of approximately 20 and had two preliminary reviews and two final reviews. In the preliminary review, not judging, the co-chairs offer suggestions and for the final review we have an experienced photographer from outside the club give their comments on the completed projects. In the interest of time and to give each person a considered review of their work we recommend that portfolios show approximately 12 images. You are welcome to build a larger portfolio as you progress.
At this time, preliminary reviews are set for February 14 and March 14, 2023, and the final reviews are set for April 11 and May 16, 2023.

Co-chairs this year are Ginger Werz-Petricka and Brenda Wilson.
