Members’ Forum (In Person) – Blur with Gary Perlow

Bio:
Gary Perlow, an ex-New Yorker, has been living in the northern Virginia area for over 30 years. He was a home builder who especially enjoyed designing kitchens and bathrooms. He is presently actively involved in commercial real estate investment.
He began taking photographs seriously around 2013, and has been a member of NVPS since 2018. His favorite genres are conceptual, landscape, and portrait. Always looking to grow as a photographer, he enjoys learning, studying, and experimenting with new ways to express ideas visually.
Gary has won awards for his photography, including a national best-in-show in monochrome in 2024 from the Photographic Society of America, two best-in-shows from Nature Visions/MAPV in 2019 and 2022 (as well as in a variety of categories), and the NVPS’s Ollie Fife award in 2022.
He has been exhibiting photographs in galleries around the country and in Barcelona, Spain. He currently is participating in a group show at the Carter Burden Gallery in Manhattan.

Blur in photography is something we have always experienced many times – but it is not always a flaw: it can be a powerful tool for expressing emotion and creativity. By intentionally incorporating blur, photographers can enhance the storytelling aspect of their images and create mystery, as well.
