Competition: (Zoom) Theme: Industrial with Judge Russ Young

I began photography as the high school yearbook photographer using a 4×5 Speed Graphic; the very definition of immersion. My senior year, I worked after school as the darkroom monkey for a commercial & industrial photographer. These experiences still shape my imagery as I still shoot film and large format. I taught for The University of Texas at Austin and Ohio Wesleyan University. My specialties are the history of Pictorialism and 19th century printing methods.

Saint Andrews University (Scotland) granted me a Ph.D. in art history for my dissertation on soft focus lenses and Pictorialism. file:///C:/Users/russ/Downloads/WRussellYoungPhDThesis.pdf (warning: reading it has been known to induce narcolepsy). 

The Royal Photographic Society denominated me as a Fellow about 20 years ago.

Living for 18 years on an isolated farm near The Blue Ridge, landscapes have been the primary subject of my cameras. Although I capture the landscape with both film and digital, the vast majority of my images are black & white. Impossible to avoid, I use PhotoShop and its ilk minimally. My photographs have been viewed in both one-person exhibitions and group shows.
