The 2012-2013 competition year has come to a close with the last monthly competition held on May 21st. (The results for the May competition are at the end of this article.) Co-VP’s of Competition Mike Whalen and Mike Kane would like to express their appreciation to all NVPS club members who took an interest and invested their time to participate in competitions this year. We hope that everyone who participated had a great learning experience and are excited about growing by more actively participating in competitions next year.

The end of the year awards will be announced and distributed at the NVPS Annual Banquet on June 7th and you can get your tickets here.

Speaking of next year, as a reminder there are three (3) themed competitions spaced throughout the year. The themes that have been selected for the next two years are:

2013-2014

  • Abandoned and discarded
  • Out of place
  • Famous places

2014-2015

  • Street Photography
  • Water
  • Still Life

The monthly competitions are a dynamic, integrated effort on the part of numerous club volunteers. Without their time, effort and technical expertise we would not have been able to successful present the monthly competitions. Our deepest thanks and appreciation go out to the following members who worked to make the monthly competitions run effortlessly:

Timber Gooding

Melanie Marts

In May, the NVPS membership voted to change the competition rules for next year as an effort to distribute the competition more fairly across all the skill levels of our members and to structure the competition to maximize the opportunities for comment and feedback from our judges.  Please look for the updated competition rules to be posted on the Club website in June 2013. Here are is a brief summary of the changes:

  1. Add a third Competition Class
  2. Change the names of the Classes to Class 1; Class 2; & Class 3.
  3. Eliminate the “participation point” in competition scoring.
  4. Allow a single entry per category for classes 2 and 3, and two entries per category for class 1, keeping the maximum entries/category at three.
  5. Add guidance to the rules addressing workshop images being entered into competitions.
