Portfolio Project
Mar 31st, 2009 - Portfolio Project Critique
To all Portfolio Participants participating in the 3-31 Critique:

Please submit a digital set of your current portfolio images to Bill Prosser (prosserwm@nospam!#*&^#)type address - don't copy spam protection(*@.@nospamaol.com) no later than 6 PM, March 29 (If possible, please limit it to 20 images.) and follow this procedure:
  • Title the email "Portfolio Project."
  • Size images no larger than 1024 pixels horizontal and 768 pixels vertical.
  • Use a naming protocol: last name-blank-image number from 1 to total.)
(Please Note: If you get the images to me earlier, it will make it easier for me to get copies of them to the judges so they can have a look at them before the meeting. This will save everyone time at the critique and make our ambitious schedule that night more feasible.)
At the 3-31 Critique, we plan to follow this procedure:
  • Overview of project and remaining calendar.
  • Discuss each and all (Approximately 15) portfolios.
Limit of 4-5 minutes per portfolio. (Should take about 60-80 minutes total. Note: Ed feels this is very, overly optimistic. I agree, but think we can do it. We both feel it is worth trying to give each portfolio a reasonable time for discussion, but an hour and a half may not be enough time to do them all.)
  • Show and ask Artist to read or paraphrase Artist Statement (A.S.).
  • Show each portfolio image (about 5 sec. each.)
  • Use Lightroom or other software to show entire portfolio on one screen to facilitate discussion of overall portfolio.
  • Judges (to be announced later) comment on coherence of portfolio and adherence to A. S.
  • Judges mention three images they like the best, discuss three images which they believe are the weakest in the portfolio, and explain why.
  • Maker artist will be given time to ask questions about portfolio and judges' comments.
  • Audience, priority given to other participants, comments and questions, if time allows.
  • After all portfolios individually reviewed, open up for some general conversation about portfolio project. Quit before 10 PM.
