October 27th, 2009 - Members Gallery: Prints with John Naman & Digital Projection with Paul Simmons
Members Gallery on October 27th will include Prints by John Naman & Digital Projection by Paul Simmons. Join us for their presentations immediately followed by October's Forum presentation. The following are the biographies of the members presenting on October 27th: Paul Simmons My interest in photography began as a college student. One of my student jobs involved processing film and making black and white prints for the Engineering Department. One day it occurred to me that with my new skills and a fully equipped professional darkroom at my disposal, I ought to have a camera. Epiphanies like this come to people who spend their lives in the dark. So I purchased a Nikkormat camera, a case of Plus-X film, and began photographing the world around me. I did enough of it that I actually began to see my surroundings in B&W. However, over the years this ability has eroded away, as my interests turned to macro photography. Then it happened, one day I awoke and found myself married with a growing family. I had precious little time, money, or energy left for photography. My camera languished on the shelf for decades, being dusted off only for vacations, birthdays and Christmas. I'm not complaining. If I had to do it again, I would not change a thing. Today my favorite photographic subjects are my six grandchildren followed closely by flowers--beautiful, colorful, wonderful flowers. Several years ago it dawned on me that my job was actually interfering with my picture taking activities (Can you imagine that?) so I retired. John Naman John became interested in photography and the lens as a child. In high school, he became immersed in the darkroom and eventually became the lead photographer for the yearbook. In 2002, John began experimenting with digital photography. After moving to Virginia, John joined NVPS in November 2007. Over the past few years, he has been researching and experimenting on technical topics including Image Sharpness, Digital Noise, Polarization and Perspective Control. Recently he exhibited nature prints at Meadowlark and USGS. Georgette Grossman |
