Susan S. Phillips — Fine Art Photographer
Susan Phillips’ interest in photography started at Kutztown University of Pennsylvania where she received a Bachelor of Fine Art Degree. After college she continued taking pictures as an Art Director for Kolber Advertising Agency in Philadelphia on various product and modeling assignments. In the early 70’s she moved to Northern Virginia working at various graphic design jobs before becoming a Photographers’ Representative for Focal Point, a group of National Geographic photographers; selling stock photos and assignments to various advertising and government agencies. This led to a Sales Representative position at Xerox . A more creative opportunity evolved from there an Susan started her own design/build landscape contracting company “Landescapes”; again photographing her projects for the company portfolio.
Susan continued using a camera to document her son’s college rowing and was also official photographer for her Ladies Golf League; but now discovering the advantages of digital photography.
Susan joined NVPS in the fall of 2009. She was also a member of the Vienna Photo Society and Manassas/Warrenton camera clubs; winning many competition ribbons. In 2010 she had six images juried into the Mid-Atlantic Nature Visions Expo and received an award from LowePro. In spring of 2011 she was juried into the Joe Miller Abstract Photography Show. Susan was awarded “Best In Show” at the 2011 Nature Visions Expo along with ribbons from Corey Hilz Photography and Olympus Camera; two of her images making final selection.Susan photographs a variety of subjects including nature photography, architecture, flowers, abstracts and recently Civil War Re-enactments. She does her own fine art printing and will have over 200 13×19 prints in portfolio and 50 or more matted prints for perusal.
