A demonstration of the “Golden Years of Flight” between the First and Second World Wars, the Flying Circus recreates the barnstorming era. Most of the aircraft date to the 1940s. On August 19 and 20, they’re adding a Hot Air Balloon Festival to the mix – previsualize all those images of multi-colored balloons across a clear blue sky!

The field trip will be August 19 so that August 20 can be a rain date if needed. The Flying Circus is in Bealton, VA; Google Maps estimates that to be roughly an hour from the Dunn Loring Fire Station where we meet. The airshows are scheduled to start at 2:30, but the hot air balloon launches are expected between 7:00 and 9:00 am, or between 6:00 and 8:00 pm, when the air is calmer than midday. Gates open at 6:00 am, and crowds are likely.

Food – there is a snack bar at the field, and outside food and beverages are allowed.  We can also gather for dinner after the airshow if there is interest.

Admission is $15 ($13 with valid military ID) and they urge cash to speed the entrance lines.

Please sign up for the Flying Circus trip by email to field-trips “at” nvps.org. We will try to organize ride-sharing as best we can, so please include whether you can take passengers or need a ride in your email. (Rather than have everyone meet at the fire house, please also include your location so some matching is possible.) Everyone is, of course, encouraged to arrange ride-sharing on your own.
