\"EasternEastern State Penitentiary was once the most famous and expensive prison in the world, but stands today in ruin, a haunting world of crumbling cellblocks and empty guard towers.<\/p>\n

Known for its grand architecture and strict discipline, this was the world\u2019s first true \u201cpenitentiary,\u201d a prison designed to inspire penitence, or true regret, in the hearts of convicts.<\/p>\n

Its vaulted, sky-lit cells once held many of America\u2019s most notorious criminals, including bank robber \u201cSlick Willie\u201d Sutton and Al Capone.<\/p>\n

We will have an early admission, 9:30. We will be given a highlight tour from 9:30-10:00. We will be far enough inside the prison so other visitors shouldn’t bother us for a while.<\/p>\n

\"EasternWe are getting a discount price of $11 per adult, $10 per senior. The tripod fee is $5 instead of $10. YOU MUST COME WITH EXACT CHANGE AS WE HAVE TO PAY IN ONE LUMP SUM UPON ARRIVAL.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Drive time from Virginia is 2 hours, 22 minutes according to Google maps without traffic.<\/p>\n

Directions from the South or East:<\/h3>\n

  • Take I-95 to Exit 22 (Old Exit 17) and follow Interstate 676 West.<\/li>\n
  • Get off at “Art Museum\/Benjamin Franklin Parkway” Exit.<\/li>\n
  • At the top of the ramp, turn right onto 22nd street.<\/li>\n
  • Pass the Philadelphia Museum of Art (on your left) and continue five blocks north, to Fairmount Avenue.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
