Willa Siegel<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Photography has become Willa’s passion.\u00a0\u00a0She is\u00a0drawn to color, texture, and luminosity: soft focus macro and abstract photographs.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Willa\u00a0joined NVPS in May of 2011, after working for almost 40 years in the Federal Government\u2019s national Head Start Program.\u00a0Her last position was Head Start\u2019s Literacy Specialist.<\/p>\n

She\u00a0tinkered with photography earlier in\u00a0her life, but for her it was more snapshots than photography.\u00a0 In 2011,\u00a0Willa took up photography seriously.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Willa\u00a0considers\u00a0herself a novice, because while (IMHO),\u00a0she made\u00a0some beautiful photographs,\u00a0her technical skills are still developing.\u00a0 She has no formal schooling in photography, but\u00a0has taken classes\u00a0and workshops in macro, flower and landscape photography, as well as Lightroom.<\/p>\n

Longwood Garden Favorites<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

She\u00a0considers herself a serious amateur.\u00a0\u00a0Her images have been juried into various shows, including Nature Visions\u00a0and the Joe Miller Abstract Show.\u00a0 Last month, one of\u00a0her photos, Mysterious Calla, was sold from the Vienna Art Society show at Greenspring Park.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Willa’s\u00a0favorite subjects are soft focus macro shots and\u00a0abstracts.\u00a0 Since\u00a0she is\u00a0still working on her focusing abilities,\u00a0her favorite subjects are ones that stay relatively still\u2026 mostly flowers.\u00a0 They don\u2019t care how long it takes\u00a0her to compose her shots.<\/p>\n

Orange and Yellow Vlower<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

She\u00a0have recently switched from Olympus to Fuji,\u00a0and currently shoots with a Fuji XE1.\u00a0 Not sure if it is technically a gadget, but\u00a0her favorite accessory is a Canon 500 D close up lens.\u00a0 It allows\u00a0her to travel without taking a dedicated macro lens.<\/p>\n

Willa is\u00a0married to David Siegel, and has a stepdaughter, Lauren, 31.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Willa hopes to keep learning more, both in terms of\u00a0her skill level and her ability to \u2018see\u2019 and\u00a0that\u00a0her passion for photography continues to grow.<\/p>\n

Digital Images- Kieu-Hanh Vu<\/h1>\n

Kieu-Hanh Vu<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

While photographers usually learn to take pictures first and then learn how to edit their pictures using post processing tools, Kieu-Hanh went the unconventional route.\u00a0 She first learned about the editing tools when she took a computer graphics course in college, and because she was so interested in those editing tools, she began learning about photography so that she could apply her skills.\u00a0 She first picked up a point-and-shoot camera in 2006, and learned how to take pictures at the Vietnamese Photographic Society in Falls Church, Virginia.\u00a0 She has since moved on to several SLR digital cameras, and currently uses a Canon 7D Mark II.<\/p>\n

The Final Round<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Kieu-Hanh joined NVPS in 2008.\u00a0\u00a0 She is also a member of Photographic Society of America (PSA) and the International Federation of Photographic Art (FIAP).<\/p>\n

She considers herself as an avid amateur photographer. \u00a0She always travels with some kind of camera, big or small.\u00a0 To her, the best camera is the one she has with her.\u00a0 She uses photography as ways to relax and to reduce the stress from her hectic lifestyle.\u00a0 Her main interest is nature photography and photojournalism.\u00a0 When creating an image, she focuses on making the image unique so that it stands out from similar types of image.\u00a0 She also tries to convey an idea, message, or thought in her images.<\/p>\n

Ready to Land<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Kieu-Hanh has earned two Bachelor\u2019s degrees \u2013 one in French Literature and one in American & British Literature from the Polytechnic University of Saigon, Vietnam. She also holds a Master\u2019s degree in Information Systems Technology from the George Mason University, Virginia.<\/p>\n

She is currently working as a Systems Analyst at Department of Housing\u2019s Office of the Inspector General (HUD-OIG).\u00a0 She lives with her husband in Fairfax, Virginia.<\/p>\n

Kieu-Hanh has won numerous competitions and awards for her photographs at international, national, and local competitions. Some highlights of the awards she has received are:<\/p>\n

  • Gold medal in 2012 Photographic Society of America (PSA)\u2019s Individual Creative Competition.<\/li>\n
  • Gold medal, \u201cBest of Creative,\u201d in 2012 PSA-Mid-Atlantic Chapter.<\/li>\n
  • Photographer of the Year in 2010 NVPS\u2019s Novice Digital category.<\/li>\n
  • Two images that won \u201cImage of the Year\u201d in 2009 and 2010 at NVPS\u2019s End of Year Competition, in Novice Digital category.<\/li>\n
  • Honorable mention awards at the Coachella 2012 International Exhibition of Photography, 2012 Tropical Image Exhibition, 2014 Southern California Council of Camera Clubs, and at the 2015 Greater Lynn International Exhibition.<\/li>\n
  • Her images were also accepted to many international exhibitions of photography in the U.S, Ireland, Serbia, Argentina, and the U.K.<\/li>\n
  • Her photographs were also juried into the Joseph Miller Abstract Photography Exhibit of 2012, 2013, and 2014.Kieu-Hanh\u2019s photography plan is to continue to improve her photography skills via NVPS\u2019s education and training presentations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
