Equipment Needed<\/span><\/b> \u2013 Just a basic camera and lens.<\/p>\n

A<\/b> zoom telephoto is helpful; the long end works best for close-ups.<\/p>\n

N<\/b>ext – purchase a diopter but of good quality for edge to edge sharpness. It will enable you to focus much close for macro work only.<\/p>\n

O<\/b>ther items that may work are extension tubes and teleconverters.<\/p>\n

Y<\/b>ou don\u2019t have to carry equipment very far, from the back door to yard.<\/p>\n

Start with Flowers and Plants<\/span><\/b>– Because they are found everywhere.<\/p>\n

T<\/b>hey don\u2019t move unless the wind blows.<\/p>\n

T<\/b>hey are colorful, long-lasting and you can shoot them in their prime.<\/p>\n

Everyone<\/b> likes looking at them.<\/p>\n

Shooting Wildlife<\/span><\/b> \u2013 Includes any \u201ccritter\u201d from big to tiny.<\/p>\n

I<\/b>nsects and other invertebrates are all over the home landscape.<\/p>\n

D<\/b>eer, foxes, rabbits, and others may occasionally visit your yard.<\/p>\n

S<\/b>quirrels (\u201cbushy-tailed tree rats\u201d) are always around \u2013 if you have trees.<\/p>\n

B<\/b>irds are great at any time in the year and easily attracted.<\/p>\n

Give them food (but if you do so, continue in the winter)<\/p>\n

Give them water, at least a birdbath. Moving water does not freeze up.<\/p>\n

Give them a place to nest \u2013 build or buy birdhouses and plant shrubs.<\/p>\n

Macrophotography<\/span><\/b> \u2013 Photographing small subjects gives a new perspective of nature.<\/p>\n

T<\/b>iny subjects are not evident until you \u201clook for\u201d and photography them.<\/p>\n

Close-ups<\/b> reveal nature\u2019s unique beauty and design.<\/p>\n

N<\/b>ature can become very abstract in nature.<\/p>\n

E<\/b>quipment can be quite inexpensive.<\/p>\n

Weather Conditions<\/span><\/b> \u2013 You can take advantage of changing weather, and come in any<\/p>\n

time it gets too hot, cold, or wet. Relax and then go back outside if you wish.<\/p>\n

Y<\/b>ou don\u2019t have to carry your equipment into bad weather conditions.<\/p>\n

Y<\/b>ou can take a break from being inside and shoot between rain showers.<\/p>\n

Y<\/b>ou know the territory and angle of the sun, direction of sunrise, and set.<\/p>\n

Unique Techniques<\/span><\/b>\u2013From the simple and cheap to more complex and expensive.<\/p>\n

W<\/b>indy, come inside.<\/p>\n

N<\/b>o rain, make your own.<\/p>\n

N<\/b>ot enough light, use flash.<\/p>\n

S<\/b>ubject not in good light or position, some are easily moved.<\/p>\n

M<\/b>ake use of backgrounds, clothespins, beanbags, etc.<\/p>\n

B<\/b>ring nature to your yard by purchasing\/collecting elsewhere.<\/p>\n

B<\/b>uild small sets & photographs inside or outside. You will have total control.<\/p>\n

A<\/b>dd a water feature (small pond) to your yard. Then you can plant around it with<\/p>\n

native plants & bring in critters (frogs, aquatic insects, etc.) to fill it. Add a pump to keep water flowing – you will have open water for birds in the freezing winter.<\/p>\n
