Making street portraits of strangers can be one of the most intimidating yet rewarding types of photography you will ever try. In this presentation, James Prochnik will share his experiences making photographs of strangers wherever he finds himself, from the suburban streets of Northern Virginia to his New York City home base. Through stories and examples, James will take us through his process – how to prepare, how to approach strangers, and how to make pictures in the moment that you and your subject will both appreciate. <\/p>\n\n\n

James Prochnik is a Brooklyn-based photographer focusing on lyrical documentation of the social and environmental landscape. James’s practice is as a flaneur, a wanderer, searching for encounters, moments, and mysteries that provoke curiosity and express the poetic potential of the world and the photographic medium. James teaches photography online for StrudelmediaLive and is the founder and editor of  The NYC Photo Community<\/em> – a web-based resource created to promote NYC-based photographers, events, exhibitions, and opportunities. James’s photography has been featured in The NY Times, Lenscratch, Humble Arts Foundation, and exhibited in the U.S. and Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
