{"id":26704,"date":"2023-02-10T06:00:00","date_gmt":"2023-02-10T11:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nvps.org\/home\/?p=26704"},"modified":"2023-03-10T09:57:20","modified_gmt":"2023-03-10T14:57:20","slug":"march-11-2023-field-trips-huntley-meadows-park","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nvps.org\/home\/march-11-2023-field-trips-huntley-meadows-park\/","title":{"rendered":"March 12, 2023: Field Trips: Huntley Meadows Park"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>*** Rescheduled to Sunday 3\/12\/23 at 8:00 am due to weather concerns ***&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><i>Reminder<\/i><em>&nbsp;that Daylight Savings Time starts on Sunday morning, so set your alarms appropriately!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Get out your zoom lenses and get ready for some wildlife photography at a club favorite, Huntley Meadows Park in Alexandria, Virginia!&nbsp; With woodland trails, boardwalks through wetlands and an observation deck this local gem allows you to view various forms of wildlife, including abundant waterfowl.&nbsp; At this time of year there should be a lot of ducks and geese and hopefully some ducklings, goslings and mammals such as otter, beaver and raccoon.&nbsp; There are also some landscape photography opportunities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Where:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Huntley Meadows Park<br>3701 Lockheed Boulevard<br>Alexandria, Virginia 22306<\/p>\n<p>(Note that there are two entrances to the park.&nbsp; We will go in at the Lockheed Blvd. entrance.)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fairfaxcounty.gov\/parks\/huntley-meadows-park\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/www.fairfaxcounty.gov\/parks\/huntley-meadows-park<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>When:<\/strong><br>&nbsp;<br>Saturday, March 11, 2023 from 7:00 a.m. \u2013 10:00 a.m.&nbsp;<br>(Rain date: Sunday, March 12, 2023 from 8:00* a.m. \u2013 11:00 a.m. *Daylight Savings Time starts)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<strong>Equipment:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>For wildlife, a telephoto lens: the more reach the better<\/li>\n<li>If you want to make early morning landscape images, bring a standard or wide angle lens&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li>Tripods or monopods are helpful and permitted but not necessary<\/li>\n<li>Hiking boots or walking shoes are advised: the boardwalk can be slippery<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Notes:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>We will meet in the parking lot at 7:00 a.m. and walk into the park together.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Sunrise on March 11 will be at 6:25 a.m. (7:22 a.m. on Sunday).
