NatureVisions 2012 Photography Expo will be held November 9 – 11, at the Hylton Performing  Arts Center on the Prince William Campus, George Mason University, Manassas, Virginia. The Expo is a three day event showcasing the photographic work of Northern Virginia’s wildlife photographers. The centerpiece of the Expo is a display of approximately three hundred images that have been selected by a panel of jurors.<\/div>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Expo also offers two full days of lectures and workshops by noted photographers and several unique activities including photographers having the chance to photograph hawks, owls and other raptors.  Thanks to the Raptor Conservancy of Virginia, photographers can focus their cameras on these magnificent wild birds in a natural setting just outside the Hylton Center. Numerous  vendors will be on hand to display the latest in photographic equipment and technology.<\/div>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Expo will kick off on Friday, November 9 with a full day seminar conducted by Seth Resnick. Seth is considered one of the 30 most influential photographers of the decade and is one of 78 photographers worldwide named as a “Canon Explorer of Light” photographer. Seth will also give the keynote address on Saturday afternoon. Lectures will be held all day Saturday and Sunday.<\/div>\n

 <\/p>\n

NVPS will collect images beginning with the first meeting in September, September 4 and continue through the second meeting in October, October 16. There will be NO EXCEPTIONS FOR LATE ENTRIES. The judging will be on Sunday October 21 and a list of juried entries will be posted as soon as possible, but not later than the meeting on October 23.<\/div>\n

 <\/p>\n

 Images must be in compliance with instructions and specifications in the EXHIBITOR’S GUIDANCE and all entries will be accepted on the condition that the photographer will perform at least on volunteer task for the Expo. The guidance was provided by e-mail to the membership on May 7 and is now posted on the NVPS website under “Exhibits” and the NatureVisions website.<\/div>\n

Specific information concerning registration,  hours of operation, lectures and workshops, etc., will be posted on the NatureVisions website at www.naturevisions.org. as soon as it become available. Additional information will be provided to ,members via e-mail throughout the summer.<\/div>\n

Named in a 2010 poll by the professional photographer’s magazine Photo District News as <\/span>one of the thirty most influential photographers of the decade<\/strong>, our Friday full day seminar instructor and our Saturday keynote speaker is Seth Resnick. <\/span><\/p>\n

Never heard of Seth?  Others have.  He received the most votes in the PDN
\npoll.*<\/span><\/p>\n

Seth’s Friday seminar, Creating Dynamic Killer images, will reinvigorate your
\ncapacity for creativity. Seth concentrates on techniques that improve
\nthe overall photographic process, from concept to output.<\/span><\/p>\n

Creativity is fueled by experiences, sights, sounds and smells. Sitting still won’t
\nbring new ideas in; experimenting and trying new things will jog your
\ncreativity. Practice, practice, practice. Creativity is like a muscle that you need to flex regularly. In much the same way that our bodies get out of shape without using our muscles, as a photographer our cognitive and visual capabilities decrease if we don’t try new things and if we don’t shoot images almost every day. Becoming a better photographer is really about training your mind’s eye to be more creative. It’s about how to look for, see, and create better images. While some of this is intuitive, other parts of this take training. Rather than just taking pictures, Seth’s seminar will help refine your creative vision and help you create more effective and compelling images,
\nbringing your creativity to a new level.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
