Winter is here! It is one of my favorite times of year for landscape photography. The days are much shorter and usually it means not having to get up at 4:00 a.m. for sunrise. The light is also softer and because of the angle of the sun, you get nice long shadows. For me the cold is not a problem. Dressing in appropriate layers is key, as well as keeping your hands and feet warm so you are not ready to quit after 15 minutes. I will be put to the test when I travel to Yellowstone in January 2022 in pursuit of magical images. Temperatures can drop to -25 degrees Fahrenheit as I once experienced!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On January 4th, Lisa Langell, who judged for us in September, will present \u201cPhotography High Key Style\u201d, a technique she is well known for. For E&T on January 11th<\/sup>, Georgette Grossman will present, \u201cHow to Get Your Work Out There\u201d. As we\u2019ve heard Georgette say many times, \u201cAn image does not live until it\u2019s printed.\u201d Our second themed competition of the year will be held on January 18th. The theme is \u201cOld\u201d, such as people, places, or objects that are showing their age, and it will be judged by Jean-Pierre Pl\u00e9.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

For Member\u2019s Gallery on January 25th, Rena Schild will be presenting \u201cBeauty Close to Home: Images from the Pandemic\u201d and Debra Mastronardi will be sharing \u201cWelcome to Da \u2018Hood\u201d. We will end the evening with Judy and Wayne Guenther\u2019s Member\u2019s Forum on \u201cThe History and Beauty of the Amalfi Coast\u201d. The field trip on January 22nd will be to the Udvar-Hazy Air and Space Museum. Visit the photo gallery<\/a> from our last field trip in 2019 to see the inspiring work of NVPS members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As I\u2019ve mentioned, in January 2022, NVPS will be asking members to complete an on-line survey, which will help us in planning future programs, E&T and other activities based on the interests and needs of our club members. Each member\u2019s voice is important, so please complete the survey to make certain it is heard. We need your participation!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finally, a quick Covid update. As of this date, no decisions have been made as to when we will resume meeting in person at the firehouse. Soon we will begin testing a technology solution for hybrid meetings, with some members meeting in person, while the rest attend by Zoom. We want to be ready for when it\u2019s safe for us to be together again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
