“Beauty can be seen in all things. Seeing and composing the beauty is what separates the snapshot from the photograph.”

Well, the “Dog Days of Summer” are coming to an end and I hope you all had opportunities to get out with a camera to shoot your favorite subjects whether locally or abroad. With summer’s end comes the beginning of another NVPS club year. I join the newly appointed Board and Advisors in welcoming back both current and new members. The 2022–2023 club year should be exciting and I encourage each of you to participate in all the various activities offered by NVPS each month.
I am thrilled to say we have a great lineup of outside speakers, competition judges, education & training topics, portfolio reviews, member’s forums and galleries, and field trips over the next club year. I’d also encourage you to take advantage of our Mentor Program and the tremendous amount of experience of our members. We never stop learning.
In 2021–2022 we demonstrated our ability to conduct successful weekly meetings via Zoom, thereby allowing NVPS to continue to serve its members virtually in order to meet our mission. While it is our goal to resume club meetings in person at the Dunn Loring Firehouse, the Board felt that it would be best to continue utilizing Zoom for the majority of our meetings in 2022–2023. Socialization between the NVPS members will be realized through other venues; namely, occasional in-person-only meetings (three of which will be conducted on the 5th Tuesday in November, January, and May) and monthly field trips (the first one scheduled September 24 at Eastern State Penitentiary).
I encourage you all to utilize the NVPS website and read the monthly FotoFax throughout the club year. Many thanks to David Crooks, Jack Ledgerwood, and George Bradshaw for our excellent web page. Kudos to Judy Guenther and John Nash for their skills and time in producing FotoFax. I’m very pleased to present our new NVPS logo and FotoFax design this month. NVPS member and professional graphic designer, Robin Weisz, donated her time and talent to create our new look, and the board is very grateful.
Our first meeting is on September 6 with speaker Nikhil Bahl who will be providing a presentation entitled “Techniques for Creating Dynamic Images.”
I look forward to seeing you all on Zoom on the 6th!
Kirk Johnson, President – 2022–2023
