Mary Louise will present  a program focusing on Black and White Photography (monochrome).  Black and white photography has been around since the 1830s or so. It has a classic appeal that persists today. But unlike the days of film, today’s digital technologies give us the ability to refine black and white images in ways that would have made Ansel Adams envious. However, with the predominance of color photography in today’s world, many photographers practicing today have lost an appreciation for how to make a strong black and white image. All photographers can benefit from a back-to-basics pursuit of black and white images and how that effort can improve their overall understanding of design, composition and lighting. In this talk I will touch on key considerations for black and white images from concept and capture, through printing and presentation.

Hopefully, this will encourage more people to participate in the Monotone competitions held every month.
