Co- Vice Presidents of Competition Mike Kane and Mike Whalen are pleased to host judge Kathryn A. Brown for the October 16, 2012 club competition. The theme for this month will be: “Bridges”.

Please upload your digital images by the deadline of 6:00 PM on Sunday October 14, 2012, as per the current instructions on the club website. Prints should be signed in by 7:15, so our judge can preview them. You must be a fully paid club member to compete.

Ms. Brown has graciously provided the following biography. Join us in welcoming Judge Kathryn A. Brown.

Since 1983, Kathryn Brown has maintained her own photographic business, KATHRYN A. BROWN, Photographer, shooting in 35mm and large format through 2005, when she transitioned to digital format. Her specialties include special events, including weddings and a wide range of corporate needs, as well as architectural photography. Kathryn’s training includes a BA degree in Art from Penn State, and an AAS degree in Commercial Photography from NVCC.

Having turned her lifelong passion into her career, she was determined not to allow that to erode her love of capturing images. She has pursued personal subjects in her fine art photography, so that the essence of “finding” the image remains magical for her. Her fine art photography has been exhibited in solo, group and juried shows, garnering numerous awards.

Kathryn juried into Artisans United Craft Gallery in Annandale in 1991, and has shown there since then. As a founding and Board member in the Del Ray Artisans, non-profit gallery in Alexandria, she exhibits there regularly. She is a legacy member in the Art League gallery, in the Torpedo Factory. She has been awarded the Cultural Arts Award by the Alexandria Commission for Women, the Allied Professional Award from the Northern VA Chapter of the American Institute of Architects, and is included in the Living Legends of Alexandria traveling photographic exhibit, which captures individuals who have given above and beyond to that community.

Much of Kathryn’s exhibition photography has become abstract, including her Frozen Neon series, yet she continues to represent the natural and man-made world, finding both precious beauty and rusty decay compelling subjects.
