“Photography shines a light on life.”
Mollie Isaacs
We just returned from a photography workshop in the Great Smoky Mountains. Six photographers, new to each other, came together and formed a community that explored and made photos together. As we reflected on our experience, we realized that part of the magic and success of this time was being with other photographers. When someone saw something unique and special, they shared so the whole group would be able to see and experience it through their own eyes and cameras. It required being engaged with each other and committed to remaining open to see things in a new way.
This is also part of the magic of NVPS—providing opportunities to be together around our common interest of photography. We share our experiences through Members’ Galleries and Forums; we share what we have learned through Education and Training; we come together and learn from professional photographers in our Programs presentations. Field Trips, Portfolio Project, Competitions, and Beanetics Exhibitions bring us together to share our images and gather feedback.
When we are in a community with each other, it is mutually beneficial; just by coming together we share our images, perspectives, and ideas, and we receive equally from others new ways of thinking and seeing.
The key component here is you, each member. Each time you join in on a Zoom call, attend a meeting, participate in a field trip, join in Portfolio Project, do a volunteer job for the club, or invite a visitor or new member, you contribute to the magic of being together.
As we close our club year, I would like to thank each of you for making this a year filled with fun, learning, and discovery. You have shared beautiful images, offered knowledge about making photos, and asked great questions that have inspired us.
Thank you to each board member and volunteer who has worked their magic throughout the year, often behind the scenes. We are truly grateful for all you have done.
As we move through the last month of the club year, we have more opportunities to engage with each other in May. Join a fascinating Programs presentation with Stephen Greenberg, the in–person digital and print competition, a final Portfolio Project review, and a very special Member’s Gallery where you are invited to share your printed photo art, images, and projects. Please see the website for more details.
Also watch for details to RSVP for the End–of–Year Banquet on June 6 where we celebrate everything that is NVPS. Thank you for being a member!
