Deb Rose

Hello everyone! Welcome to March, when we enjoy seeing more of everyone’s work through Portfolio Projects, a print and digital competition, and more members galleries and forums.

This month, I am reading Declutter Your Photo Life by Adam Pratt. Having just returned from two photography workshops, interspersed with family celebrations, I was faced with an overwhelming number of photos to review and edit. Through a 5–step workflow, Adam explains how to creatively and functionally organize images and develop a workflow that minimizes that overwhelming feeling. Having a “guidebook” to take me through the steps restores my confidence to developing a workflow practice to keep an organized photo library.

This time of the club year can also feel a bit overwhelming, as we ask for volunteers to fill the positions that organize and plan our club activities and learning throughout the year. We have many opportunities for you to volunteer and serve NVPS and your fellow members. Perhaps you may feel hesitant to volunteer, not sure of what is expected or what to do for a role. NVPS has developed a Handbook—a “guidebook” if you will—to support each volunteer with information, timelines, and resources for each volunteer position. Additionally, there are many members who will support you in your role, should you volunteer.

Why volunteer? Honestly, in my experience volunteering almost every year since joining NVPS, I have grown and evolved as a photographer because of my volunteer experience. Being part of a community of photographers provides a rich and diverse learning environment, and through volunteering, you can support the club in providing these experiences. Most importantly, volunteering has introduced me to a phenomenal group of people who share in the joys of photography. I also must mention the laughter, which is another big benefit.

I hope to see you at either an in–person meeting, if you are able, or an online meeting very soon. Thank you for being a member of NVPS!
