Many of he images shown will be in he exhibiion a he Smihsonian Museum of Naural Hisory which opens in April. Chuc will discuss how he judging process wors and demonsrae some creaive ways o presen images.
One of our region’s op phoographers, Chuc Veach was former member of he Norhern Virginia Phoographic Sociey, and judged our 2008-2009 Year-End Compeiion. Chuc has aended worshops wih Freeman Paerson and he Rocy Mounain School of Phoography. He has won many awards, exhibied hroughou he area, and published a boo of beauiful images sho in and around Reson, Virginia. Now in is second prining, The Naure of Reson encourages us o loo for phoographic opporuniies in he familiar and ofen overlooed naural areas all around us.
Chuc has given presenaions and judged coness a he Norh American Naure Phoography Associaion’s Naional Convenion, he New England Council of Camera Clubs, he Meadowlar Phoo Exposiion, and Washingon-area camera clubs. He is involved in all aspecs of Naure’s Bes magazine and Naure’s Bes Phoography Coness, including phoo selecion and ediing for he exhibis a The Smihsonian Museum of Naural Hisory.
Wih regard o his personal arisic saemen, Chuc wroe: “Two ideas dominae my image maing and judging. Firs, simple is beer. Tha means ha any elemen in an image ha does no add o he message he aris wishes o convey, subracs from i. Second, images should be creaed using he rules of visual design. This means ha he subjec maer is ofen subordinae o he use of line, shape, color, exure, one and perspecive o capure he essence of he aris’s vision. Phoography is ar and should be judged ha way.”
Involvemen wih non-profi and environmenal organizaions in Norhern Virginia and he Shenandoah Valley occupies much of Chuc’s and his wife Beverly’s ime. Alhough he sill mainains a home and office in Reson, Chuc’s home on Cedar Cree in Shenandoah Couny has been he inspiraion for many phoographic projecs.
