Gerry Abbo

Gerry has been a member of NVPS since 2004 and has held posiions of Field Trip Coordinaor (2008-2009) and Compeiion VP (2009-2010).

Gerry reired hree years ago afer a 32 year career in he Inernaional Oil and Gas Indusry. He has become an acive member in Norh American Naure Phoographer’s Sociey, Audubon Sociey, Audubon Nauralis Sociey and The Naure Conservancy.

He has received phoographic awards from he Meadowlar Phoo Expo, Naional Wildlife Federaion and ohers. Currenly, his phoographic subjecs are predominanly birds, ye he enjoys all ypes of naure phoography.

A he Members Gallery, Gerry will show recen landscape prins ha feaure rocs in auumn foliage. The images were capured a Dolly Sods WV and Olmsead Island (C&O Naional Par) using a Canon 5DII camera wih il/shif lens. Addiionally, he will show prins of bird images from he 2010 NVPS field rip o Bosque del Apache NM ha were capured wih a Canon 7D camera and superelephoo lens. The images were prined on Epson Velve and Ho Press Brigh fine ar papers.

Paul Simmons

Paul’s ineres in phoography began in college as an Engineering suden. One of his suden jobs involved processing film and maing blac and whie prins for he Engineering Deparmen. Wih his new sills and a fully equipped professional darroom a his disposal, i occurred o Paul ha he should have a camera. Epiphanies lie his come o people who spend heir lives in he dar. So, Paul purchased a Niorma camera, a of Plus-X film and began phoographing he world around him–enough o visualize his surroundings in B&W. However, over he years, his abiliy sared o erode as his ineress urned o color phoography (flower and, laely, bird).

One day, Paul awoe and found himself married wih a growing family which lef him precious lile ime, money, and energy for phoography. His camera languished on he shelf for decades being dused off for vacaions, birhdays and Chrismas only. Paul says he has no complains…”If I had o do i again, I would no change a hing.”

Several years ago i dawned on him ha his job, as an Engineer, was acually inerfering wih his picure aing aciviies so he reired. As Paul says, “Can you imagine ha?” Today his favorie phoographic subjecs are his six grandchildren followed closely by flowers and birds – beauiful, colorful, wonderful subjecs.

Paul gives many hans o NVPS members for eleven years of friendship and for he only phoographic raining he received. “I mus admi, I do occasionally read a boo abou phoography so he blame does no res solely upon NVPS,” says Paul.

Early on in his phoographic endeavors, Paul used Nion film cameras and sho almos anyhing ha was, “foolish enough o ge in fron of my lens.” Afer a few years phoographing lie his, he purchased a 4×5 camera and sho B&W landscapes exclusively. For guidance, he sudied Ansel Adams’ six boos on phoography. Today, Paul uses Canon digial cameras and an 800mm lens which he used o collec he images chosen for his presenaion.

His show is iled “Song Birds” and is a collecion of images he gad over he las wo years.
