Personal projects are one of the most powerful ways to improve your craft\, develop your photographic voice and vision\, expand your creativity\, and create images with lasting meaning. Whether your working with simple projects or something more ambitious be it short-term or years in the making\, we’ll be talking about how to find ideas worth pursuing\, organize and structure your work\, sustain momentum\, and how to embrace projects that evolve over time. We will be looking at examples\, talking practical strategies\, and recalling lessons learned from years of project-based photography. In our conversation\, you’ll gain some tools and techniques for turning simple curiosities into a cohesive body of work. Whether you’re beginning your first personal project or refining an existing one\, you’ll leave with fresh inspiration and practical ideas for creating work that are uniquely your own \n\n\n\nBio: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDaniel Gregory is a photographer\, educator\, and podcast host whose work explores the connections between people\, place\, memory\, and time. Through both his photography and teaching\, he encourages people to become more present\, attentive\, and aware of how we are connected to the land and each other. \n\n\n\nDaniel serves as a core faculty member at Photographic Center Northwest (accredited art school)\, and with organizations including CreativeLive\, KelbyOne\, and the Virtual Summit series. He is a sought-after speaker and educator\, presenting at conferences and workshops across the country. He is also Adobe-certified in both Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop. \n\n\n\nHe also teaches from his studio on Whidbey Island\, Washington. Whether leading courses like Meaningful Images and Inspiration and Influence\, hosting travel workshops\, or teaching his Master Printing course\, his focus is always the same: helping photographers find their unique voice and vision and embrace their creative vision. He is the host of The Perceptive Photographer podcast\, now in its eleventh year (approaching 600 episodes)\, where he explores both the craft of photography and the life of being a photographer. \n\n\n\nDaniel is currently represented by the SAM Gallery in Seattle\, Washington and his work is held in numerous collections. He is currently working on a projects around connecting to the woods and the notions of a touched landscape.

SUMMARY:Member’s Gallery: (In-Person - Digital) - Two Seasons of Japan with Judy Guenther
DESCRIPTION:Biographical Statement:   \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJudy Guenther joined NVPS in the fall of 2015. She is an avid travel photographer who loves the process of photography from the capture to post-processing. She enjoys a variety of photographic subjects during her travels and is particularly drawn to architecture.  \n\n\n\nJudy is a member of the Art League in Alexandria and the Maryland Federation of Art. Her work has been juried into shows across the country\, published in various journals\, and received awards including grand prize in The Washington Post 2022 Travel Photography Contest and Honorable Mention in the 2023 Contest.   \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHer Member’s Gallery will include images taken in Spring 2024 and Autumn 2025 in Japan. Her spring cherry blossom photo tour was a smorgasbord of locations\, traditional Japanese history\, landscapes\, snow monkeys\, Samurai sword manufacturing\, big cities\, and Sumo wrestlers.  \n\n\n\nJudy returned to Japan last autumn with husband\, Wayne\, who was visiting Japan for the first time. The trip was divided into exploring Japan’s country and culture\, followed by an “Essence of Autumn” small group photo tour to capture gorgeous fall colors and landscapes. Her Member’s Gallery digital presentation will feature images from both trips.

SUMMARY:Member’s Gallery: (In-Person - Print)  Hawaii with Jim Sinsheimer
DESCRIPTION:As an architect and design/construction manager for the past 45 years\, photography has always been an integral part of Jim’s career\, starting with a small darkroom in the College of Architecture during the early 70’s. Subsequently\, he progressed from a tiny darkroom over a clothes dryer to a fully equipped facility for work; from a 4×5 view camera and finally into the digital age. Jim’s work has been published in several issues of Black and White Magazine and LensWork\, and shown in hanging exhibits in California and Chicago.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAfter moving from southern California to Virginia to be closer to family\, he joined NVPS in 2019 and has enjoyed its comaraderie and friendships. Travel photography has also been and remains a favorite part of the trips he has taken over the years\, of which his five trips to the Hawaiian Islands were most memorable. He spent much of his time there hiking ocean side trails\, exploring the jungle-like forests\, viewing the islands from helicopters\, throwing snowballs at top of Mauna Kea\, and rising at 4:30 am to see a volcano at sunrise. The photographs he is showing depict the great photographic opportunities the islands offer.

DESCRIPTION:Description: \n\n\n\nIlenia Alvarez will transform a regular photograph into a watercolor painting using Adobe Photoshop. The process involves applying a series of editing techniques that simplify photographic details\, create the appearance of brush strokes\, soften edges\, enhance colors\, and add the texture of watercolor paper. Each step is designed to imitate the characteristics of traditional watercolor painting while using Photoshop’s digital tools. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSpeaker’s Bio: \n\n\n\nIn 2016\, Ilenia began a photographic voyage\, initially captivated by the dynamic energy of urban landscapes and the candid moments found in street photography. Through her lens\, Ilenia has captured life’s spontaneous moments\, crafting images that tell stories of time and place. Yet\, as her journey unfolded\, a transformation occurred\, leading Ilenia to the delicate and mesmerizing world of bird photography. \n\n\n\nIlenia joined NVPS in 2018. In the 2019-2020 club year\, Ilenia was awarded Digital Photographer of the Year in the Novice category. In the 2022-2023 club year\, Ilenia was awarded Color Digital Intermediate Photographer of the Year.
