SUMMARY:Beanetics Exhibit Reception: The Colors of Death Valley by Anita Feidler
DESCRIPTION:Exhibit Duration: August 4\, 2026 at 8:00 am – September 8\, 2026 at 5:00 pmArtist Statement \n\n\n\nSunrise at Zabriskie Point\, Death Valley NP\, CA\n\n\n\n“As I drove down Highway 190 in the middle of a December day\, I saw a parched\, washed-out landscape. I began to wonder why I chose to visit this desolate place where landmarks are named to evoke hell or the devil.  \n\n\n\nBut at the crack of dawn and as the sun set\, I observed the beauty of Death Valley. I witnessed the play of golden light and blue shadows on wind-sculpted sand dunes. I followed the quickly moving alpenglow as it cast shades of rose\, violet\, and orange across badlands and rugged mountains. And I observed the patterns and jagged formations that reflected the many colors of sunrise and sunset in salt springs and vast salt flats. \n\n\n\nBy the end of my trip\, I found Death Valley to be a place of unique beauty and diverse\, colorful landscapes.” \n\n\n\n– Anita Feidler \n\n\n\nLocation: \n\n\n\nBeanetics Coffee Roasters – 7028 Columbia Pike\, Annandale\, VA 22003

SUMMARY:Field Trip: “Smorgasbord”
DESCRIPTION:NVPS August 2026 Field Trip \n\n\n\n“Smorgasbord” \n\n\n\nLet’s try something different this month! Our normal field trip often explores a single location or venue in depth\, with time to ponder\, photograph\, and explore in detail. Very good for single locations with multiple things to photograph. This month you are invited to sample several smaller venues or locations where there may be only one or a few great views – a “Smorgasbord” where you choose locations from the list below that interest you. Or think of it as a “sampler”. Start anytime 6:00 AM or later at a location of your choosing; End at Panera Bread on Elden Street in Herndon about 10:00 AM. At Panera we will grab a snack or drink and share with each other how the morning went along with a few of our “finds” from our cameras and phones. \n\n\n\nFor those of us that are adventurous and are willing to get started early we have identified sites that could provide excellent “Pre-Sunrise” (6:00 AM–6:34 AM). For the rest we have “Sunrise/Golden Hour” (6:34 AM–7:35 AM) and “Later Morning” (after 7:35 AM) for your reference. \n\n\n\nWhen: \n\n\n\nSaturday\, 29-Aug-2026 6:00 AM (or later) to 10:00 AM. \n\n\n\nPost-Shoot Meeting Location: \n\n\n\nPanera Bread;10:00 AM; 460 Elden St\, Herndon\, VA 20170 \n\n\n\nWhere: \n\n\n\nArlington to Herndon Corridor – You choose your own locations and route. You can find full details for each location in the “Location Details” later in the document. \n\n\n\n• Bon Air Rose Garden\, Arlington \n\n\n\n• Cherry Hill Farmhouse\, Falls Church \n\n\n\n• Colvin Run Mill\, Great Falls \n\n\n\n• Hendry House and Gardens\, Arlington \n\n\n\n• Herndon Depot Museum\, Historic Herndon\, Herndon \n\n\n\n• Lake Anne Plaza\, Reston \n\n\n\n• Marine Corps War Memorial & Netherlands Carillon\, Arlington \n\n\n\n• Reston Station\, Reston \n\n\n\nTo help identify places to start here is a table of locations that may provide “excellent” light by time of the morning: \n\n\n\nPre-SunriseSunrise/Golden HourLater MorningHerndon Depot Museum(Exterior)\, Historic Herndon\, HerndonBon Air Rose Garden\, ArlingtonLake Anne Plaza\, RestonLake Anne Plaza\, RestonCherry Hill Farmhouse\, Falls ChurchReston Station\, RestonMarine Corps War Memorial & Netherlands Carillon\, ArlingtonHendry House and Gardens\, ArlingtonReston Station / Wiehle-Reston Metro Area\, RestonMarine Corps War Memorial & Netherlands Carillon\, Arlington\n\n\n\nEquipment and Notes: \n\n\n\n● There are a variety of locations and styles from Macro to architecture\, flowers to memorials. There are multiple photographic and equipment strategies from bringing a single camera and lens to putting your “kit” in the back of the car and choosing different equipment at different locations. Smartphone photographers will find lots of different opportunities to use anything from “basic and simple” JPEG images to trying out those new “pro” or “advanced” modes and RAW capabilities. \n\n\n\n● For Sunrise shooting you may want a tripod \n\n\n\n● To capture morning “sun stars” any lens used with a small aperture (at least f11\, preferably f16 to f32) is useful \n\n\n\nLocation Details \n\n\n\nTime Key: \n\n\n\n• Pre-Sunrise = 6:00–6:34 AM \n\n\n\n• Sunrise/Golden Hour = 6:34 AM–7:35 AM \n\n\n\n• Later Morning = after 7:35 AM \n\n\n\n• Ratings: Excellent\, Good\, Poor \n\n\n\nBon Air Rose Garden \n\n\n\nFeatures: Memorial Rose Garden; Flowers; Macro; Ornamental and Teaching Gardens \n\n\n\nTime: Pre-Sunrise: Poor | Sunrise/Golden Hour: Excellent | Later Morning: Poor \n\n\n\nAddress: 850 N Lexington St\, Arlington\, VA 22205 \n\n\n\nParking: Parking lot at the above address \n\n\n\nApple: https://maps.apple.com/?q=850%20N%20Lexington%20St%2C%20Arlington%2C%20VA%2022205 \n\n\n\nGoogle: https://maps.google.com/?q=850%20N%20Lexington%20St%2C%20Arlington%2C%20VA%2022205 \n\n\n\nCherry Hill Farmhouse \n\n\n\nFeatures: Historic Farmhouse; Greek Revival Architecture; Mid-19th-Century Barn; Park Landscape \n\n\n\nTime: Pre-Sunrise: Good | Sunrise/Golden Hour: Excellent | Later Morning: Good \n\n\n\nAddress: 312 Park Ave\, Falls Church\, VA 22046 \n\n\n\nParking: On-street parking in front of Cherry Hill Farmhouse\, or Falls Church Government Center lots on Little Falls Street \n\n\n\n Apple Maps \n\n\n\n Google Maps \n\n\n\nColvin Run Mill \n\n\n\nFeatures: Historic Working Mill; Miller’s House; General Store; Millrace and Water Features; Wooded Grounds \n\n\n\nTime: Pre-Sunrise: Good | Sunrise/Golden Hour: Good | Later Morning: Good \n\n\n\nAddress: 10017 Colvin Run Rd\, Great Falls\, VA 22066 \n\n\n\nParking: Parking lot at the above address \n\n\n\n Apple Maps \n\n\n\nGoogle Maps \n\n\n\nHendry House and Gardens \n\n\n\nFeatures: Historic House; Victorian Architecture; Gardens; Civil War Earthworks; Meadow and Mature Trees \n\n\n\nTime: Pre-Sunrise: Good | Sunrise/Golden Hour: Excellent | Later Morning: Good \n\n\n\nAddress: An exact address that navigation systems can use was difficult to identify\, so instead the Latitude/Longitude is provided\, along with text directions from Eastbound I66 \n\n\n\nParking: Parking lot at 38.901334\, -77.088162 \n\n\n\nApple Maps \n\n\n\nGoogle Maps \n\n\n\nDirections from Eastbound I66: \n\n\n\n• Follow I66 Eastbound \n\n\n\n• Take exit 72 for US-29/Langston Blvd toward Spout Run Pkwy \n\n\n\n• Turn right onto US-29 N/Langston Blvd \n\n\n\n• Turn left onto N Spout Run Pkwy \n\n\n\n• Continue on Lorcom Ln to your destination \n\n\n\n• Turn left onto Lorcom Ln \n\n\n\n• Turn right onto N Edgewood St \n\n\n\n• Turn right onto 24th St N \n\n\n\n• Pass the Service Entrance to Hendry House \n\n\n\n• Turn left into the parking lot \n\n\n\nHerndon Depot Museum\, Historic Herndon \n\n\n\nFeatures: Historic Railroad Depot; Railroad History; Caboose; Historic Streetscape; W&OD Trail Corridor \n\n\n\nTime: Pre-Sunrise: Excellent | Sunrise/Golden Hour: Good | Later Morning: Good \n\n\n\nAddress: Parking for both locations at 731 Station St\, Herndon\, VA 20170 \n\n\n\nParking: Parking lot at the above address \n\n\n\nApple Maps \n\n\n\nGoogle Maps \n\n\n\nLake Anne Plaza \n\n\n\nFeatures: Mid-Century Modern Architecture; Waterfront Plaza; Public Art; Fountain; Reflections; Streetscape \n\n\n\nTime: Pre-Sunrise: Excellent | Sunrise/Golden Hour: Good | Later Morning: Excellent \n\n\n\nAddress: 1609 Washington Plaza N\, Reston\, VA 20190 \n\n\n\nParking: Parking lot at the above address \n\n\n\n Apple Maps \n\n\n\n Google Maps \n\n\n\nAccess: Go through retail area to find Lake Anne \n\n\n\nMarine Corps War Memorial & Netherlands Carillon \n\n\n\nFeatures: Memorial; Netherlands Carillon; Formal Grounds; Lincoln Memorial\, Washington Monument\, and U.S. Capitol Views; Sunrise Skyline \n\n\n\nTime: Pre-Sunrise: Excellent | Sunrise/Golden Hour: Excellent | Later Morning: Good \n\n\n\nAddress: An exact address that navigation systems can use was difficult to identify\, so instead the Latitude/Longitude is provided along with text directions from Eastbound Route 50. \n\n\n\nParking: Parking lot at 38.890368\, -77.071210 \n\n\n\nApple Maps \n\n\n\nGoogle Maps \n\n\n\nDirections from Eastbound US 50: \n\n\n\n• Follow US Rt 50 Eastbound \n\n\n\n• Take the N Rolfe St exit \n\n\n\n• Follow Arlington Blvd Service Road past several streets.
