SUMMARY:Field Trips: Dupont Circle
DESCRIPTION:NVPS September 2023 Field Trip \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn September we’re going to hone our street photography skills in Dupont Circle\, a lively\, busy part of DC.  We’ll find photo ops from the many restaurants\, storefronts\, and people out and about and heading to brunch.  We’ll also go down a few of the nearby residential streets for some architectural photography.  We’re going to go there on a Sunday to make parking easier to find and because street parking is free. When: \n\n\n\nSunday\, Sept. 10 from 8:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. \n\n\n\nSaturday\, Sept. 9 from 8:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. (Rain date announced by Thursday\, Sept. 7th) \n\n\n\nEquipment: \n\n\n\n\nSince stealth is the name of the game\, a walk-around lens with good range (e.g. 24-120 or 28-300) or a small prime lens (50mm) is recommended.  Think light! No tripods or monopods are needed and only one camera body is recommended.\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nWhere: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe will meet on the sidewalk outside the Dupont Circle North Metro station (corner of 20th and Q Streets\, NW).   \n\n\n\nThere is street parking in the areas surrounding Dupont Circle and any metered parking should be free on Sundays.  The Dupont Circle North metro station is on Metro’s red line.  \n\n\n\nWe hope you can join us! \n\n\n\nRena Schild and Steven GlintzField Trip Coordinators 2023-2024 \n\n\n\nPhotographs courtesy Bob Friedman

SUMMARY:Education & Training - (In Person) Prints! Without Losing Your Mind! with Jim McDermott
DESCRIPTION:Printing has long been considered an important part of the photographer’s craft. While the pandemic discouraged many photographers from printing their work\, the print remains a key medium for presenting and preserving our work. This presentation will survey some of the important things to consider when you are printing your work. It will include a listing some of the local and national printing services identified by fellow club members. \n\n\n\nJim McDermott\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nBio \n\n\n\nJim McDermott is this year’s Education and Training coordinator for NVPS. Trained as an economist\, he finds the trade-offs among shutter speed\, aperture\, and ISO intuitively sensible. He particularly enjoys wildlife photography\, although he enjoys just about any opportunity to practice his craft. \n\n\n\nHe credits NVPS and many friends in the club with challenging him to become a better photographer. At NVPS\, he’s helped coordinate field trips and served as Program VP. He also worked to arrange speakers for Nature Visions\, prior to it becoming Mid-Atlantic Photo Visions. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn-Person at the Dunn Loring Firehouse
