SUMMARY:Member’s Gallery: (In-Person) (Print) - The Many Moods of Mist: Photographs from Eastern France with David Miller
DESCRIPTION:David’s mother\, an amateur art historian\, introduced him to the fine arts\, but it was his sister — then a serious photographer — who gave him his first camera in high school. She later advised him to get a Pentax when he went to Africa with the Peace Corps. During his career in international development that followed\, David used the Pentax and a series of Cannon PowerShots and iPhones to capture street scenes and portraits. By the early 2000’s he was posting his images on social media. During this time\, he also began creating and posting photo collages (@crashingphotos) and abstracts (@davidabstracted). More recently\, David has shot with Olympus cameras focused on intimate landscape compositions\, primarily in Virginia and eastern France. He joined NVPS in 2025. \n\n\n\nSince his retirement in 2021\, summers find David at his wife’s family home in eastern France composing intimate landscapes that often include the mist that travels over the region’s freshwater lakes\, limestone cliffs\, hilly farmlands and pine forests. Like other photographers\, David uses mist to simplify his compositions and isolate subjects. He also uses it to intensify the atmosphere and create a mood. Sometimes mist itself is the subject of his photographs. In this gallery\, David presents a selection of photos\, some drawn from his 2025 portfolio\, that use these techniques to show the many moods of mist in Eastern France

SUMMARY:Member’s Forum: (In Person): Faroe Islands―The Other Danish Territory with Wayne Guenther
DESCRIPTION:The Faroes are an archipelago of 18 islands about halfway between Iceland and Norway formed by volcanic eruptions and shaped by multiple ice ages. They were settled by Norsemen in the 800’s. Current residents have eked out a living by fishing\, farming\, and raising sheep in an environment with lots of rain and wind but with a relatively mild climate thanks to the Gulf Stream. It has one “big” city\, Tórshavn (the capital)\, one airport\, and a remarkable infrastructure of roads\, tunnels\, and ferries making it easy to get around.  It has been an autonomous territory of Denmark since 1814. The population is around 50\,000 with half in Tórshavn and the rest scattered around the shoreline in villages. Tourism is on the rise because of the incredible beauty of the sharp ridges\, verdant valleys with hundreds of streams\, and villages with a mix of very old and new homes.  It’s a landscape photographer’s paradise. \n\n\n\nWayne will discuss how he and Judy planned their trip to the Faroe Islands on their own\, a trip easily done over about 5 days with a rental car. \n\n\n\nBio: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWayne Guenther began his photography avocation in the late 1960s and became increasingly involved with Art Photography in the mid–1990s. Membership in Gallery West and the Art League (both in Alexandria\, VA) nudged him to regularly create new work. In 2009 he was a charter member and President of the Workhouse Photography Group (Lorton\, VA) and remained active there until 2012 when he fully retired to travel and shoot with wife Judy. In the “Be There; Shoot” philosophy Wayne has subjects associated with wherever he is (e.g. when on African safaris\, photograph animals)\, but his natural style is heavily weighted towards subjects with graphic content; patterns and lines\, geometry\, reflections\, fragments\, and abstracts.  \n\n\n\nWayne joined NVPS in 2015 and was Co–VP for Competitions in 2023–2024. He has been accepted in many regional juried art competitions/shows over the past 30 years\, including MAPV 2021–2024\, and placed in many NVPS monthly competitions.   He shot with Nikon equipment for many years until the aggregate weight of the kit became problematic\, leading him to switch to the micro–four–thirds system in 2014. He uses two OM System bodies and two Olympus lenses ( 12–40mm f2.8 and 40–150mm f4). He increasingly uses the iPhone camera as well.

SUMMARY:Competition: (Zoom) Theme - Patterns with Judge Tillman Crane
DESCRIPTION:Tillman’s love for the platinum print began in 1976 at the Frederick Evans’ exhibit in the Philadelphia Museum of Art. It was 1990 before life allowed him to begin his journey to becoming a master of the process. The platinum print continues to be his photographic medium of expression and his understanding of the materials continues to deepen in creating his works of beauty. \n\n\n\nIn 1996 he took a job at the Waterford School (Sandy\, Utah) and was tasked with building a photography program for grades 8-12. 2001 provided an opportunity for him to bring his family back to Maine\, setting up Tillman Crane Photography as a fine art photographer and workshop teacher. \n\n\n\nHe has taught workshops in Mexico\, Scotland\, England\, Canada\, China\, and Japan as well as over 100 workshops in the United States. In addition to his own branded workshops he has led workshops for the Maine Media Workshops\, Visionary Wild Workshops\, Santa Fe Workshops\, Peters Valley School of Craft\, Coupeville Art Center and Inversnaid Photography Center. \n\n\n\nTillman has frequently written on the craft of photography\, with twenty articles for View Camera Magazine and other pieces in Photo Technique\, Silver Shotz and the Ilford Photo Instructor Newsletter.  \n\n\n\nAfter 35 years of working solely with film and large format cameras he has enthusiastically embraced the digital world. Tillman is enjoying the versatility of traveling more lightly and the ability to make ever bigger negatives for his prints. \n\n\n\nTwo of his highest professional achievements include his solo\, one hundred platinum print exhibit\, Alchemy of Light (2016)\, at the National Art Museum of China (Beijing) and his induction into the inaugural class of the Artist Hall of Fame in the Alabama Center for the Arts. \n\n\n\nTillman continues to find joy in creating and teaching photography while being blessed to live in Maine. \n\n\n\nFor more information about Tillman’s photography\, books and workshops\, see his web site TillmanCrane.com

DESCRIPTION:The final review for group one of the Portfolio Project will be held with Frank Van Riper on Tuesday\, April 14. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFrank Van Riper is an award-winning documentary and fine art photographer\, journalist\, author and lecturer whose work has been published internationally.  \n\n\n\nHis photographs are in the permanent collections of the National Portrait Gallery (Washington\, DC) as well as in the Portland Museum of Art (Portland\, Maine.) His 1998 book of photography and essays\, Down East Maine/A World Apart\, was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize and won the silver award for photography from the Art Director’s Club of Metropolitan Washington.  \n\n\n\nHis latest book\, written with his wife Judith Goodman\, and their first book in color\, The Green Heart of Italy – Umbria and its Ancient Neighbors was published very recently.  His previous book\, Recovered Memory: New York & Paris 1960-1980\, immediately became an Amazon bestseller.  Also done in collaboration with his wife and professional partner Judith Goodman\, was Serenissima: Venice in Winter\, a coffee table collection of black and white photographs and essays\, published in 2008 both in the US and Italy.  \n\n\n\nVan Riper was a member of the New York Daily News Washington Bureau for 20 years\, serving as White House correspondent\, national political correspondent and Washington Bureau news editor. He was a 1979 Nieman Fellow at Harvard. In 1982 he partnered with his wife in commercial and documentary photography. In 1992\, Van Riper became photography columnist of the Washington Post\, where his column\, “Talking Photography\,” appeared for 19 years. It now is now available at www.TalkingPhotography.com.  \n\n\n\nA popular teacher and lecturer\, Van Riper is on the faculty of PhotoWorks at Glen Echo Park\, Md.\, and has lectured and/or taught in the Smithsonian Resident Associate Program\, the Maine Photographic Workshops\, the University of Maine at Machias and at other colleges and universities in the mid-Atlantic.

SUMMARY:Programs: (Zoom) Improve Your Story with Motion – Filmmaking for Photographers With Brian Zwit
DESCRIPTION:Humans have been sharing stories since they first learned to speak. However\, the way we tell those stories has changed over time. We started by painting our stories on the walls of caves. We later learned to write and paint on wood\, paper\, and canvas and still later we invented photography and filmmaking. In the past 20 years\, we got Tik Tok\, Reels on Facebook\, You Tube\, and very short attention spans. Progress has been relentless. \n\n\n\nPhoto slideshows are\, however\, stuck in the in the 70s and 80s. When dad took out the projector to show the slidesfrom the recent trip to Disney World\, there was always a collective sigh in the room and reluctant consent to what was about to be endured during the next hour. Slideshows have not changed much since the 70s. Back then\,filmmaking was an expensive and frustrating experience. Today\, it is the most popular storytelling media.  \n\n\n\nBy including some short clips in your slideshows\, you can better capture the viewer’s attention and tell a richer story. Improve Your Story with Motion will cover how to incorporate filmmaking into your storytelling\, including the following: \n\n\n\n• Why add video to your storytelling \n\n\n\n• What are the differences between shooting stills and capturing motion \n\n\n\n• How to plan for capturing clips for your storytelling \n\n\n\n• What equipment you need to capture motion (Hint: Not much.) \n\n\n\n• What and how to capture the clips you need for your story \n\n\n\nBrian approaches this as well as all of his creative efforts with a simple philosophy: He believes that the most important tool a photographer possesses is their creativity and willingness to put in the effort to capture an image. Equipment can sometimes help to capture an image\, but truly great images are the results of creativity and perspiration. \n\n\n\nBio: \n\n\n\nOver 40 years ago\, Brian discovered that photography provided a powerful means for expressing his vision of the world. Over the years\, his love of the outdoors and photography as well as an aptitude for computer technology have morphed into a passion (some would say obsession) for capturing the elegance and majesty of the unique landscapes and flora of the United States. While the pursuit of nature takes him all over the continent\, he favors the west\, northeast\, mid-Atlantic\, and Canada’s eastern provinces and\, wherever he is\, his love of hiking and backpacking takes him far beyond populated areas into settings which few people visit. \n\n\n\nIn addition to landscape photography\, Brian is always experimenting with other genres of photography and has accumulated thousands of architectural\, travel\, dog\, and city and street life images. During the pandemic\, Brian learned filmmaking and is working on a couple of film projects. Lately\, he has become particularly enamored with instant photography and now owns way too many instant cameras. Brian’s images are in private residences and corporate offices and have appeared in regional magazines. Corporate clients have also used his images for promotional and internal publications. \n\n\n\nBrian’s philosophy is simple: He believes that the most important tool a photographer possesses is their creativity and willingness to put in the effort to capture an image. Equipment can sometimes help to capture an image\, but truly great images are the results of creativity and perspiration. \n\n\n\nBrian has been teaching workshops\, field trips\, and classes and speaking to camera clubs\, schools\, and other non-profits as well as for profit entities for over fifteen years. He has taught Lightroom to over 1\,000 students. Brian is well-known for his ability to distill complex topics to their essence and explain them in simple\, easy to understand ways and is a recognized expert in digital workflow with Lightroom\, Photoshop\, Nik software\, and other editing applications. \n\n\n\nBrian has degrees from Purdue University in chemical engineering\, the University of Houston Law Center in law\, and Northern Virginia Community College in photography.

SUMMARY:Education & Training: (In-Person) Alternative Printing Methods with Phil DeShong
DESCRIPTION:This presentation will discuss the use of non-traditional methods of printing photos digitally.  Typically\, we use papers specifically tailored to give exceptional results with modern inkjet/giclee printers from Epson and Canon. However\, there are many other forms of media that are available including transparent film (digital negatives and color positives)\, papers designed for watercolor painting (cyanotype\, carbon\, platinum-palladium prints) or mechanical printing (photogravures). \n\n\n\nPhil DeShong began taking photos seriously in high school – many decades ago.  His first camera was a used Nikon F.  In college and graduate school\, he was the chief photographer for his research groups\, had a dedicated darkroom\, and learned to print b&w and diazo.  During his career\, Phil and his wife have had the opportunity to live in Europe for several years and to travel extensively which provided many opportunities for photography.  During the bulk of his academic career\, it was impossible to maintain a darkroom and slides were his chief media\, but as soon as digital cameras became available\, he bought switched over to digital.  His first digital camera was a Leica D-Lux 4 which he still owns and uses while traveling.  Phil’s exploration of non-traditional printing techniques centers on his interests in b&w photography and photo restoration efforts.   \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nf

However\, each subject represents a deliberate step in an artistic journey to develop new and distinctively different photographic skills. This presentation takes you from the remote wilderness of Khutzeymateen\, Canada\, and Lake Clark National Park and Preserve\, Alaska — where logistical hurdles were as challenging as the grizzly bears themselves — to the sub-zero temperatures of Wolfe Island\, Canada\, to capture the high-speed action of snowy owls in flight. Following the owls\, we track moose in the rut through the deep and dramatic snow of Grand Teton National Park\, Wyoming. Finally\, we move from the wilderness to the sky\, as we chase lightning and storms across five states in the western United States. SUMMARY:Member’s Forum (Zoom):  Iceland and Noisy Birds With Stan Bysshe
DESCRIPTION:A two part presentation on the challenges of photographing wildlife in low light and secondly an update on the latest noise reduction software for post processing. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nStan joined NVPS in 2011 looking for help with his photography. Up until that point his 40 years with a camera were primarily spent underwater. There he  graduated from a range-finder Nikonos to sophisticated housings and strobes for his digital SLRs. His images and articles were published in dive magazines and scuba destination websites. Prior to transitioning to land photography he taught underwater photography in the Caribbean. \n\n\n\nNot surprisingly his photography today is “nature-centric”. He has been lucky to help guide trips to Yellowstone N.P.\, Alaska\, New Mexico\, Washington State and Florida. All along this journey NVPS has been a constant source for learning the art of photography. \n\n\n\nStan has helped with club field trips\, competitions\, mentoring and has served in the past as President. \n\n\n\nHe has enjoyed giving multiple presentations  to NVPS as well as other local camera clubs.

Overlooking the Potomac River and directly across from Mount Vernon\, this National Park Service site offers a peaceful blend of wetlands\, meadows\, forest trails\, and sweeping river views. Early spring is an excellent time to visit—trees begin to bud\, migratory birds return\, and the soft morning light creates ideal conditions for both landscape and wildlife photography. \n\n\n\nThe park is also home to the National Colonial Farm\, where historic structures\, split-rail fences\, and farm animals provide additional photographic opportunities. DESCRIPTION:During this review\, the portfolio co-chairs\, Ginger Werz-Petricka and Willa Friedman\, will offer suggestions on the draft copies of portfolios for half of this year’s participants. They will look at the Artist Statements and images to see how they fit and represent the premise as laid out in the Artist Statement. SUMMARY:Programs - (Zoom): For the Love of Boats with Alison Langley
DESCRIPTION:Alison Langley\n\n\n\nBio and Description\n\n\n\nAlison Langley’s work lives at the intersection of two lifelong passions: sailing and photography. Each informs the other\, creating visuals that are rooted in experience\, patience\, and deep familiarity with life on the water. Her formal education began at New York University\, where she studied film\, and continued at the Rhode Island School of Design\, where she focused on photography.But it was through travel\, work\, and immersion that Alison found her true education. \n\n\n\nDriven by a desire to see the world\, Alison travelled to Australia\, where she worked in the film industry and learned to sail on Sydney Harbour. Sailing began as a personal pursuit\, but quickly evolved into a profession. Alison left the film industry and spent six years crewing aboard a range of vessels\, from the 130-foot classic square rigger Eye of the Wind to privately owned yachts\, sailing around theworld. These years at sea covered the North and South Pacific\, Southeast Asia and the Indian Ocean\, to places including the islands of Melanesia\, Japan\, Korea\, Borneo\, and Madagascar. \n\n\n\nIt was during this period that Alison’s photographic voice emerged. Her images\, grounded in authenticity and access\, began appearing in sailing and travel publications worldwide\, establishing her career as a nautical photographer. \n\n\n\nAfter returning to the United States\, Alison spent six years managing Stock Newport\, a photo stock agency specializing in nautical imagery. This experience sharpened her understanding of both the creative and commercial sides of photography\, laying the foundation for her freelance career\, which she launched in the late 1990s. Alison eventually settled in Midcoast Maine\, where Penobscot Bay\, long a haven for wooden boats\, continues to inspire her work. In addition to her assignments\, Alison teaches workshops at Maine Media aboard the Windjammer “Angelique”\, sharing her decades of experience. \n\n\n\nPhotographing what you love can be deeply rewarding\, but developing a meaningful body of work requires more than just repetition. It demands deliberate practice\, thoughtful feedback\, and a willingness to develop the adjacent skills that strengthen one’s core focus. In this talk\, Alison explores the creative rewards that can come from deeply committing to a specific subject. \n\n\n\nFor Alison\, photographing boats is about far more than documenting objects that float. It is about capturing a way of life.

For her\, the composition possibilities are endless in architecture\, especially modern architecture. New construction methods and materials\, in tandem with creative architectural designs\, have produced buildings that are not just functional\, but are intrinsically beautiful. Curves\, geometric patterns\, reflective glass\, titanium plates\, attract like a gourmet meal. \n\n\n\nWhat can you find inside these buildings? Amazing staircases\, soaring ceilings\, views below and above\, paintings\, warm woods and cool metals\, arches\, squares\, and more. What can you find outside? Entire buildings that are works of art\, closeups of geometrical patterns\, clouds and other buildings reflected in the glass\, and unlimited abstract compositions. DESCRIPTION:Bio\n\n\n\nKieulan Nguyen \n\n\n\nKieulan Nguyen has been a photographer for a long time\, and her work consists of macro\, landscapes\, travel\, street photography and black & white photography. Her approach to photography is using her camera to find beauty in the things and people around her. She uses different techniques such as high key\, intentional camera movement (ICM)\, long exposures\, and multiple exposures. Currently\, she is working on a black and white project and hopes to be able to present it to NVPS in the next year or so. \n\n\n\nAt the end of December of 2021 Kieulan retired from government and became a full-time photographer and digital artist. She now enjoys travelling to different countries with her family and friends to capture the beautiful landscapes as well as people’s lives and interactions via street photography. \n\n\n\nDescription\n\n\n\nIn this presentation\, Kieulan would like to show the lives of many Cubans who still live as in the 1950s. She will also show the beautiful street art from places she’s been in Chile; the bustling life in La Paz\, Bolivia; and the unforgettable grand landscape of the Uyuni Salt Flats in Bolivia. \n\n\n\nKieulan lives in Virginia and also volunteers with The Vietnamese Photographic Society of Northern Virginia\, with which she’s been involved for the last ten years. It has been a wonderful experience for her\, because she likes to give back to the Vietnamese community through teaching and encouraging others to learn the art of photography.  \n\n\n\nAll images by Kieulan Nguyen:

SUMMARY:Member's Gallery (Print) (In Person) - Mostly Birds with Clark Barker
DESCRIPTION:Clark Barker\n\n\n\nBio\n\n\n\nClark’s first real camera was a used 35mm fixed lens Voigtlander\, followed by a Minolta SRT101 after college and gainful employment. After a couple more Minoltas\, a digital 8 megapixel Olympus and several Canons\, he went mirrorless with a Canon R5 the first day it was available. Most of the pre-digital photos were 35mm slides. \n\n\n\nClark’s past photographic experience was mostly as a tourist taking snapshots of interesting places visited and photos of his son and daughter when they were children. He still enjoys taking travel photos and has expanded to birds\, other wildlife and macro photography. \n\n\n\nClark joined NVPS in 2015 which led to vastly improved comprehension of the impact of shutter speed\, aperture and ISO on the photo\, as well as an appreciation for composition.  He was the class two color print Photographer of the Year for 2016-2017.  He uses Lightroom/Photoshop CC and Topaz for post processing.  He cuts his own mats to mount photos printed with an Epson P800 printer and has recently transitioned from using mostly luster type paper to using matte paper.  Description \n\n\n\nAll images by Clark Barker:

DESCRIPTION:Patricia Deege\n\n\n\nBio\n\n\n\nPatricia has been a member of NVPS since the late 1990’s. Before then\, she had a good Nikon film camera but little knowledge of the “how to’s” of photography. F-stops\, shutter speed\, depth of field\, etc. –what did that mean?  Starting as a total beginner\, she learned much of her photography craft through attendance at weekly club meetings and numerous photography workshops. From the film era she graduated to the digital age and has enjoyed additional inspiration from all the amazing new techniques and software. Her current camera gear is the mirrorless kind and she has enjoyed being able to get closer to her subjects with lighter-weight zoom lenses\, often without using a tripod. \n\n\n\nDescription\n\n\n\nNature has ever been Patricia’s major love\, be it flowers\, landscapes\, or wildlife but sometimes she focuses on street photography and the abstract. Converting an older Nikon camera for infrared photography opened up another venue for exploration. She is always looking out for that unexpected photo opportunity. As the largest Catholic church in North America\, the Basilica offers an extraordinary range of photographic opportunities—from soaring domes and intricate mosaics to quiet chapels\, stained glass\, and sweeping architectural lines. The morning light filtering through the nave and transepts creates beautiful color and contrast\, making this an ideal location for both wide-angle compositions and detail-oriented studies. \n\n\n\nThe Basilica is an active place of worship\, so please be respectful of parishioners and any services that may be taking place. SUMMARY:Competition: (Zoom) Theme - Simplicity with Judge Deborah Loeb Bohren
DESCRIPTION:Raised on film and in a darkroom\, Deb believes the essence of photography is the art and science of painting with light. She likes to use her camera like a paintbrush and thinks of her work as visual alchemy: a transformation not of matter into gold but rather of light\, color and line into art. Minimalism\, abstraction\, in-camera multiple exposure and intentional camera movement (ICM) are all essential tools of her alchemy. She finds that these techniques work in a way that are simultaneously controllable and unpredictable\, allowing her to challenge reality and capture a feeling or impression rather than replicating reality with precision. \n\n\n\nHer work is part of individual and corporate collections across the country\, and her images have been part of solo and group shows at galleries in the U.S. and England. Most recently she was the featured artist at Metro Art Studios in Bridgeport with her Curvilinear series\, exploring how abstraction in photography can transcend literal representation\, and offer a deeper\, more intuitive experience of form\, movement\, and space. And this summer her Visual Alchemy in Tuscany and Apple a Day series will be on exhibit at the Cousen Rose Gallery on Martha’s Vineyard.  \n\n\n\nDeb serves as a judge and guest presenter for camera clubs across the country and in England\, as well as teaching a range of photography courses online. DESCRIPTION:During this review\, the portfolio co–chairs\, Ginger Werz–Petricka\, Willa Friedman and George Hogeman\, will offer suggestions on the draft copies of portfolios for half of this year’s participants. They will look at the Artist Statements and images to see how they fit and represent the premise as laid out in the Artist Statement.  Self–analysis is a valuable tool for photographers to learn as they develop their personal photography projects and learn how to view their work with a critical eye. \n\n\n\nThe preliminary review for Group 2 will be held on March 10. (Repositioning happens when cruise lines move ships from sailing in one geographic region to another. The cruises are sometimes less expensive than “normal” cruises\, generally less frequent\, but may not offer the same range of shore excursions.) Bill is also an avid bird photographer\, and their trips overseas have often combined birdwatching and photography. Over the years they have visited Costa Rica (multiple times)\, Ecuador\, Patagonia\, Kenya\, Tanzania and South Africa. DESCRIPTION:We’re starting the new year with a visit to one of the most iconic rail history destinations in the country: the B&O Railroad Museum in Baltimore. Housed in the historic 1884 Roundhouse\, the museum features beautifully restored locomotives\, vintage railcars\, historic platforms\, and industrial-era details that make for outstanding photographic opportunities. For the past 25 years\, she has traveled the world in search of her favorite subjects – landscapes\, nature close-ups\, interesting architectural details and abstracts. \n\n\n\nMary Louise’s photography is in private\, university and corporate collections in over 40 states and is exhibited nationally through art shows\, galleries and shops. Her images have been used in calendars\, magazines\, books and websites including the National Parks Magazine and various projects with National Geographic maps. In 2020 she was awarded the distinction of “Master Artisan in Fine Art Photography” by the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen\, in recognition of achievement in the three benchmarks of excellence in craftsmanship\, resolved design and unique voice. \n\n\n\nMary Louise has been a speaker at photography conferences and is a regular competition judge and speaker for photography clubs from the Carolinas to the Royal Photographic Society in England. DESCRIPTION:Library of Congress \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFor our December field trip\, we will explore one of the most iconic and photogenic interiors in Washington\, DC—the Library of Congress. The Jefferson Building is a masterpiece of Beaux-Arts architecture\, filled with soaring ceilings\, marble staircases\, mosaics\, and murals. In December\, the Library is beautifully adorned with holiday decorations\, including a grand Christmas tree in the Great Hall. The seasonal touches add warmth and color to the already stunning architecture\, offering unique opportunities to capture both the historic grandeur and the holiday spirit. This trip is perfect for those who enjoy photographing symmetry\, patterns\, and festive details in a historic setting. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhen:Saturday\, December 13\, 2025\, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.We will meet at the Library of Congress Jefferson Building entrance 10 minutes before opening time (9:50 a.m.)\, so that we can enter together. The entrance is on First St SE between Independence and East Capitol. \n\n\n\nAdmission is free. However\, timed-entry passes are required and must be reserved in advance through the Library of Congress website. Details can be found here: https://www.loc.gov/visit/ \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhere:Library of Congress – Jefferson Building10 First Street SEWashington\, DC 20540 \n\n\n\nTwo-hour metered street parking is available in DC on Saturdays. The First and C Street entrance is approximately one and a half blocks south of the Library of Congress on First Street SE. \n\n\n\nWe’ll begin photographing the awe-inspiring spaces in the Great Hall\, including the holiday tree\, and move through the building to take advantage of the many photo opportunities. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEquipment and Notes: \n\n\n\n\nA wide-angle lens (16–35mm) will be useful for capturing the grand spaces and impressive architecture.\n\n\n\nA normal zoom lens (e.g.\, 24–105mm\, 24-200mm) may be useful for capturing architectural details and murals.\n\n\n\nTripods are not permitted inside the library.\n\n\n\nBe mindful of low-light conditions indoors; a fast lens or higher ISO settings will help.\n\n\n\n\nAfter our photography session\, members are welcome to gather informally at Pete’s Diner for food and conversation.
