SUMMARY:Field Trip: Piscataway Park
DESCRIPTION:Photo by Seton Droppers\n\n\n\nFor our March field trip\, we will explore the scenic beauty of Piscataway Park in Accokeek\, Maryland. Overlooking the Potomac River and directly across from Mount Vernon\, this National Park Service site offers a peaceful blend of wetlands\, meadows\, forest trails\, and sweeping river views. Early spring is an excellent time to visit—trees begin to bud\, migratory birds return\, and the soft morning light creates ideal conditions for both landscape and wildlife photography. \n\n\n\nThe park is also home to the National Colonial Farm\, where historic structures\, split-rail fences\, and farm animals provide additional photographic opportunities. Whether you enjoy wide-angle landscapes\, wildlife\, or rustic details\, Piscataway Park offers a variety of subjects in a quiet\, natural setting. \n\n\n\nMore information about the park can be found here: https://www.nps.gov/pisc/ \n\n\n\nWhen: \n\n\n\nSaturday\, March 21\, 2026 from 7:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.(Rain date: Sunday\, March 22\, 2026 from 7:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.) \n\n\n\nPost Field Trip Coffee and Snacks at Dunkin Donuts on MD 210 (at the intersection of Bryan Point Road) \n\n\n\nThe National Colonial Farm Gate opens at 7:00 a.m. and sunrise will be at 7:10 a.m. We will meet just after 7:00 a.m. in the parking lot next to the National Colonial Farm Visitor Center. The visitor center and parking is labeled “Accokeek Foundation at Piscataway Park” on Google Maps. More detailed directions will be provided with the March Field Trip emails. \n\n\n\nWhere: \n\n\n\nPiscataway Park – Accokeek Foundation at Piscataway ParkOn Google Maps use “Accokeek Foundation at Piscataway Park” for your destination. (The official address of 3400 Bryan Point Rd\, Accokeek\, MD brings you to the park border\, NOT the parking lot\, and can be confusing). \n\n\n\nParking is free in the main lot near the visitor center. \n\n\n\nEquipment and Notes: \n\n\n\n● A telephoto lens is recommended for birds and wildlife \n\n\n\n● A standard or wide-angle lens works well for landscapes and farm structures \n\n\n\n● Tripods and monopods are permitted throughout the park \n\n\n\n● Waterproof footwear is helpful—some areas may be muddy in early spring \n\n\n\n● Restrooms are available near the visitor center \n\n\n\n● The park is largely open and exposed\, so dress in layers for changing morning temperatures \n\n\n\nWe hope you can join us!
