SUMMARY:Field Trip:  B&O Railroad Museum
DESCRIPTION:We’re starting the new year with a visit to one of the most iconic rail history destinations in the country: the B&O Railroad Museum in Baltimore. Housed in the historic 1884 Roundhouse\, the museum features beautifully restored locomotives\, vintage railcars\, historic platforms\, and industrial-era details that make for outstanding photographic opportunities. From sweeping architectural lines to intricate mechanical textures\, this location offers something for every photographer—whether you enjoy wide‑angle compositions\, detail studies\, or documentary-style storytelling. \n\n\n\nPhoto by Alan Goldstein\n\n\n\nThe museum’s indoor exhibits make this an excellent winter field trip\, and the outdoor rail yard provides additional opportunities if the weather cooperates. \n\n\n\nMore information about the museum can be found here: https://www.borail.org/. You will find inspiration from the many images as you explore the museum website\, as well as viewing the pictures from the NVPS February 2018 visit to the museum at B and O Railroad Museum – February – Northern Virginia Photographic Society. \n\n\n\nAll aboard! \n\n\n\nWhen: \n\n\n\nSaturday\, January 24\, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.(Rain date: Saturday\, January 31\, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.) \n\n\n\nWe will meet inside the main entrance lobby at 10:00 a.m. for a brief welcome before exploring the exhibits. \n\n\n\nCost: \n\n\n\nGeneral admission is $20 for adults and $17 for seniors (60+). Tickets may be purchased online in advance or at the door. \n\n\n\nWhere: \n\n\n\nB&O Railroad Museum901 West Pratt StreetBaltimore\, MD 21223 \n\n\n\nParking is free in the museum’s main lot located next to the entrance. Entrance to the Museum grounds is located at the intersection of West Pratt Street and Poppleton Street. \n\n\n\nEquipment and Notes: \n\n\n\n\nA standard zoom (24–70mm) will work well for most scenes\n\n\n\nA wide‑angle lens is helpful for capturing the Roundhouse interior\n\n\n\nA telephoto lens can be useful for isolating details on locomotives and railcars\n\n\n\nTripods are permitted except in areas where they may block walkways—please follow any posted guidelines or staff instructions\n\n\n\nThe museum is mostly indoors\, but dress warmly if you plan to photograph in the outdoor rail yard\n\n\n\nRestrooms\, a café\, and a gift shop are available on site\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nWe hope you can join us! \n\n\n\nSeton Droppers and Christopher Fedorchak
