DESCRIPTION:Eliot Cohen: New Lightroom Tools\n\nOn Tuesday\, October 30\, 2018\, Eliot Cohen will describe new Lightroom capabilities that will enhance your use of Lightroom.  The use of range masks in selective editing and profiles for color and monochrome images are among the key tools Eliot will discuss. Please join us to learn about tools that will help you make your images look their very best.  Your questions will be welcome.\n\nEliot is well known for his landscape photographs. He is also highly praised for his educational work\, guiding many new and established photographers through digital capture and workflow. He was formerly the Program head for Photography at the Loudoun Campus of NVCC where he was honored with the College’s highest award for teaching excellence. Currently he offers classes through his own organization\, Washington Photo Focus (www.washingtonphotofocus.com). He also offers individual instruction and small group seminars focused on digital capture\, editing\, and critique.\n\nIn addition to his teaching\, Eliot leads travel workshops to destinations throughout the US and around the world.  Details can be found on his website (www.eliotcohen.com). DESCRIPTION:Education and Training: October 9\, 2018 \nAnonymous Critique with Georgette Grossman and Kevin Egan \nTake this opportunity to get feedback on your images. Submit images you are experimenting on with new software; images you like but feel need just a little help\, and/or images you may consider for a competition. The sole purpose of anonymous critique is to help you grow as a photographer.  You will not be identified unless you choose to make comments or ask questions about your images. \nThe firm deadline for image submission is 6 p.m. on Monday\, October 1\, to allow time for our computer team to anonymize the images and for Georgette and Kevin to review them before the October 9 meeting.   \nYou can submit up to three images.  Please prioritize them by naming them as follows: number_title\, where number is 1\, 2\, or 3\, followed by an underscore and anything you’d like for a title. For example\, “1_Red House on Green Prairie.” Putting the number first will allow us to sort the images so that at least one image from every photographer is critiqued.  Beyond that\, Georgette and Kevin will critique as many images as time allows. \nPlease submit your images to editor@nvps.org\, sized the same as for competition:  with a maximum of 1400 pixels wide and 1050 pixels high (vertical shots have the same 1050 pixel height requirement)\, sRGB workspace. We recommend your jpeg images be 127 pixels per inch (PPI\, sometimes called dots per inch or DPI) or less (e.g.\, 127\, 96 or 72 PPI) for best results with our projector’s program. \nQuestions?  Please contact the Education and Training Coordinator\, Eva Lanyi\, at education@nvps.org.

SUMMARY:Education & Training Meeting:  Matting Tutorial with Bob & Willa Friedman
DESCRIPTION:At this month’s Education and Training session\, Bob and Willa will present a how-to/hands-on matting seminar to help members prepare their images for print competition\, exhibits or for personal use. \n\n\n\nThey will present how they cut and mount photos.  They use the “Corey Hilz Method” for cutting and mounting.\n\nOther methods and instructions for mat cutting and a spreadsheet can be found on the NVPS website. B & H also has a video at:\n\n\n\nEveryone’s method is different. The B & H demonstrator tapes the image to the backboard; we don’t do that for a number of reasons.
