Fast forward\, Kimxuan joined NVPS in 2019. She had received several Monthly Competition and Year End awards. You upload to social media yourself without much thought of file size (around 1000px) and resolution (72dpi) because it looks fine on the screen. If you want to print\, however\, you must consider many more things from capture to editing\, and matting and framing\, to create a digital file that will print beautifully for competition or decoration. This is a costly endeavor whether you print yourself or use a commercial service\, but the key to cost control is standardization. We will discuss how to select two or three image sizes that will scale to fit two or three standard mats and frames\, allowing for purchase of precut mats and backing\, glass\, and frame rails.  Once the event that required the print is over and if the piece is returned to you\, remove the print from the mat and reuse the mat/backing for the next requirement.  I will demonstrate how I place prints in mats and safely remove them later\, and a way to attach information about you and the print that can be removed without damaging the backing. Lastly\, I will talk about commercial printing service\, pros and cons of buying a printer\, and display different papers with the same printed image. \n\n\n\nWayne Guenther began his photography avocation in the late 1960s and became increasingly involved with Art Photography in the mid-1990s. Membership in Gallery West and the Art League (both in Alexandria) nudged him to regularly create new work and develop a style. In 2009 he was a charter member and President of the Workhouse Photography Group (Lorton) and remained active there until 2012 when he fully retired. Wayne joined NVPS in 2015. You automatically own the copyright in a photograph you make for your own use (if you’re employed by someone else\, other factors come into play)\, but once you share a photograph\, things become more complicated.  In addition\, your rights and remedies change significantly if you take the time to file a copyright registration.  In some instances\, it may be worthwhile to take legal action against a party that has made unauthorized use of one if your images.  In addition to the more complicated remedies available in the past\, we now have a less complex\, and less expensive\, option — the Copyright Claims Board. She didn’t start shooting anything other than snapshots until 10 years ago when her husband\, Wayne\, decided she was ready for a “big girl’s camera.” She has moved from all Nikon equipment to Olympus mirrorless equipment. She also loves using the cameras on her iPhone 12 Pro Max. We have been doing that for a number of years.  The key word in the definition is: “public”; it need not be on the street. \nOur presentation will explain what you can do legally in public spaces\, as told by lawyers and court decisions. You do have the right to photograph in public places. \nThe “decisive moment” will be explored as shown by Henri Cartier-Bresson and other photographers\, famous\, not so famous\, and us! It’s not always what it seems. \nAlso\, getting over the reluctance to take street photos or fear of getting punched in the face will be discussed including safe and friendly places for street photography. There are interesting places where you can practice street photography\, sometimes even with the cooperation of your subjects. \n Bob & Willa Friedman Biographies: \n As a teenager\, Bob started his photography journey with a darkroom in his parent’s basement\, which he inherited from his brother. The first thing he did when we bought our house was to build a darkroom in the basement. \nWilla first became involved in photography as an instructor at the American Museum of Natural History in New York\, where she photographed wildlife in city parks for the NYC schools\, and her images were published in a fourth grade textbook.  \nIf selling a few photos makes us pros\, then we are pros. Otherwise we are advanced amateurs. We have taken courses and workshops at Photoworks at Glen Echo\, and with Freeman Patterson and Andre Gallant in New Brunswick\, Canada. We have also had extensive courses in Photoshop. We have been members of NVPS for 12 years. \nOur subjects are varied\, but Bob does street photography and Willa finds reflections everywhere. Both use Fuji cameras with various lenses. \nOur current job is retirement — doesn’t pay very well but it is a lot more fun than the “W” word. In 2001\, Bill dove in the digital age and bought the Canon D30\, which had a rather modest 3.25 megapixel sensor and a blazing 3 FPS frame rate. \nSoon after retiring in 2010\, Bill attended his first photographic workshop in Costa Rica\, which exposed him to the wonderful variety and color of tropical birds and the proper use of big telephoto lenses (both on a tripod and handheld)\, the use of fill flash\, and the complexities of multi-flash setups to capture the beauty of the region’s many hummingbirds. His keen interest in wildlife and bird photography has since led him to visit many locations throughout the Mid-Atlantic region\, the West Coast\, New Mexico\, Florida\, Belize\, Central and South America\, as well as several trips to Africa\, \nSince joining NVPS\, Bill has served as the Field Trip Coordinator\, Co-VP of competition\, and President of the Club. \n  \n\nStan Bysshe \nStan’s photographic journey started in the 1960s with a hand me down Nikkormat. But because of his love for scuba diving and marine tropical reef ecology\, his equipment and images became dedicated to underwater nature. By 2010 it was time to hang up the fins and when he joined NVPS\, Stan was exposed to a whole new world of land based photography. Still nature remained a driving force behind his images. \nSince joining the club\, Stan has volunteered for Field Trips (twice)\, Competitions\, Mentoring and is a past President. Helpful definitions: \n\nHaving lived for a long time; no longer young. The hands\, eyes\, faces of older people are classic examples.\nMade or built long ago.
