SUMMARY:Competition: (Zoom) Theme - Simplicity with Judge Deborah Loeb Bohren
DESCRIPTION:Raised on film and in a darkroom\, Deb believes the essence of photography is the art and science of painting with light. She likes to use her camera like a paintbrush and thinks of her work as visual alchemy: a transformation not of matter into gold but rather of light\, color and line into art. Minimalism\, abstraction\, in-camera multiple exposure and intentional camera movement (ICM) are all essential tools of her alchemy. She finds that these techniques work in a way that are simultaneously controllable and unpredictable\, allowing her to challenge reality and capture a feeling or impression rather than replicating reality with precision. \n\n\n\nHer work is part of individual and corporate collections across the country\, and her images have been part of solo and group shows at galleries in the U.S. and England. Most recently she was the featured artist at Metro Art Studios in Bridgeport with her Curvilinear series\, exploring how abstraction in photography can transcend literal representation\, and offer a deeper\, more intuitive experience of form\, movement\, and space. And this summer her Visual Alchemy in Tuscany and Apple a Day series will be on exhibit at the Cousen Rose Gallery on Martha’s Vineyard.  \n\n\n\nDeb serves as a judge and guest presenter for camera clubs across the country and in England\, as well as teaching a range of photography courses online. Her newest venture  has her leading international travel photography workshops to London\, Paris\, Lisbon and beyond.
