Member’s Forum: (In-Person) – Sitka Alaska for Bubble Netting Whales with Ginger Werz-Petricka

October 22 @ 8:00 pm 9:00 pm

Ginger will talk about her two trips to Sitka Alaska to photograph humpback whales practicing bubble netting to feed on the herring that gather along the coast of Baranof Island each year in March to spawn.  She will talk about the logistics of photographing the whales, other wildlife opportunities in the area for that time of year, the human fishing industry, and the beautiful landscapes of the area.

BIO:

Ginger joined NVPS in 2009 at a point in her life when she really needed to find a creative outlet.  She has been interested in photography since high school after receiving a Minolta SRT-101 for Christmas.  Her first DSLR was a Canon 6D that she still loves, but for travel in particular the weight has become a problem.  Today she carries two Olympus mirrorless bodies, the OMD mark 11 and the OM-1.

“One of the first questions I always seem to get is ‘What kind of photography do you do?’    My answer is ‘all kinds’.  Any subject is fair game if it’s interesting to me.  That said, and as much as I love all kinds of wildlife, I just started seeking out animals as my subjects a few years ago…and I’m still not a bird photographer.  I greatly admire all my friends in NVPS who take such amazing wildlife shots.  I think it’s been seeing your images through the years that opened my up to giving it a try.  Now, I’d be willing to go to Sitka every year to see the whales.”
