Let’s finish the summer at the Montgomery County Fair.  Veterans of this field trip will remember the fun around the animals before sundown followed by the excitement of the carnival.  The highlights for this year’s field trip will be focused on street photography at night and the colorful light-trails of the carnival.  However, if you join the group earlier in the day, you’ll also get the chance to explore the photography exhibit, capture images of the animals, and the old timers agriculture equipment displays.  In years past there has also been a tent with owls and raptors so who knows what you’ll find this year.

Equipment:

  • Tripods are essential for after dark photography. You’ll want to find spots that are not heavy in pedestrian traffic.
  • Wide angle lenses in the range 24-70 will work great, but you will also want to bring something with just a little extra reach (70-200) for events and longer range candid photography.
  • Comfortable walking shoes for walking.
  • Protection from the afternoon sun such as sunscreen and a hat.
  • A little spending cash for diner and snacks.

When:

Saturday, August 13, 2022 from 4 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Rain date on Sunday, August 14, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Fair’s Website: mcagfair.com

Where:

We’ll meetup at 4pm in the racing park near the racing pigs course on Hickory Ave.  We’ll socialize a bit before exploring the agriculture fair and photography exhibit.  On this end of the fair, you’ll find animal exhibits, old timer agriculture equipment displays, and more.

At 6pm, we’ll reconvene for diner at the corner of Maple Ave. and Red Oak St. outside the Old MacDonald’s Barn (the red barn).  We’ll find benches and tables here while we send out groups to gather food.  When the sun sets and we’ve had our fill, we’ll walk down to the midway and carnival for some street photography at night and colorful light-trails.

Parking and tickets:

Onsite parking is $10 per car.  There should be plenty of parking, but anticipate some heavy traffic.  Car-pooling is a good option.

Free parking with shuttle (ie school) bus is also available from the Odendhal Ave parking lot at Lakeforest Mall.

Tickets are $12 online, $15 at the gate.

COVID precautions:

Although this event is outdoors, you will find yourself among larger crowds.  With variants of the virus on the rise, you may want to carry a face covering just in case.

We hope you can join us!
