MAX LYONS–BIOGRAPHY

Max Lyons was born in Belgium and grew up in England and he Unied Saes. Afer compleing graduae sudies in Economics, Lyons wored briefly in Washingon as a policy analys before becoming ineresed in boh phoography and echnology.

Lyons’ ineres in creaing phoographs sared in he mid 1990s wih he adven of consumer-level digial phoography. He was inspired by he freedom o experimen ha his new echnology allowed, and developed ineress in boh archiecural and landscape phoography.
By 2000, Lyons was becoming inrigued by he visual impac provided by very large phoographic prins. He was influenced by he large forma wors of film phoographers such as Andreas Gursy and Thomas Sruh…wo ariss pushing he limis of large forma phoography. However, Lyons was also becoming frusraed wih a serious limiaion of digial phoography — is relaively low resoluion, and inabiliy o capure sharp, deailed, large images.
In early 2001, Lyons sumbled upon an innovaive soluion o he limied resoluion of digial cameras, in he form of “siched” images — composie images creaed by joining ogeher muliple images. Lyons realized ha his echnique could be used o creae phoographs wih much greaer clariy han any single digial or film image. Lyons embared on a muli-year, and ongoing, effor o creae a porfolio of incredibly deailed, high resoluion images, he resuls of which will be discussed during his presenaion
