Members and guests enjoy social hour at the Northern Virginia Photographic Society’s End-of-Year Banquet at the Waterford at Fair Oaks, 12025 Lee Jackson Memorial Highway, Fairfax, Va. 31 May 2018

This special event concludes the year’s activities, highlighting member achievements, including competition awards, class promotions, recognition of the past year’s board members and volunteers,  announcement of new board members for the upcoming year, and presentation of special awards for outstanding service in both education and service. Below is a listing of the awards presented at the End-Of-Year (EOY) Banquet. 

The banquet is usually held the first week in June at a local conference/meeting venue with cocktails and dinner being served.  Members and their guests are invited. Meetings resume in September following Labor Day. All images (both prints and digital) accepted in the EOY competition are displayed at the banquet.

Current End-Of-Year Awards

EOY Competition: Awards are presented to the winners of the End-Of-Year competition, a final competition happening in late May following the last monthly competition. Images that received any awards in the past year’s monthly competition are eligible for entry into the EOY competition. Awards are given for each of the skill classes and three categories (Color Prints, Monochrome Prints and Digital Images).

Ollie Fife – Image of the Year: The EOY judge selects the single “best” image among all skill levels and categories. The winner is presented with the Ollie Fife trophy. This antique trophy has been rotated among “image of the year” winners since 1996 when donated to NVPS by Ollie’s family after his passing.

Photographer of the Year: Awarded by class to the member scoring the highest points in each category.

Versatile Photographer of the Year:  Awarded by class to members scoring the highest total points in all categories.

Sill Horwitz: – Sil was the original founder of NVPS. The Sil Horwitz award is presented to the outgoing president by the incoming president.

Joe Atchison: – The NVPS organization can only function because of the dedicated service of the members serving in elected and appointed positions. In an attempt to provide some recognition to these deserving individuals, NVPS has established the Joe Atchison Service Award. It was established in memory of Dr. Joe Atchison and for his many years of service to the club. This is the highest award given by NVPS to any member.

Promotions: Novice and intermediate A few members scoring the top number of points in their class will be automatically promoted to the next level.
