image1Curtis Gibbens has been a member of NVPS since 2000 which has helped him advance his photographic knowledge and skills.  He served as the Field Trip Coordinator in 2010-2011, and had some various smaller tasks, such as running the projector in the old days of slides, and providing coffee for the meetings. He hasreceived many ribbons over the years within NVPS, the Manassas Warrenton Camera Club, Huntley Meadows Park, the Ward Museum, the Audubon Society of Greater Denver, and had an image with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s National Wetland Photo Contest. He has been repeatedly juriedinto Nature Visions Mid-Atlantic Photography Expo, in which a work was recently selected for the Nature Visions Traveling Exhibit in 2014.  The exhibit appeared at the Washington School Of Photography, GW Virginia‘s Science and Technology Campus, the Workhouse Arts Center and George Mason University’s Hylton Performing Arts Center.  An image was selected by the North American Nature Photography Association (NANPA) which will be printed in NANPA’s 2016 Expressions within the top 100 images. He has presented his images on television in “Photographers of Northern Virginia” in 2004 and “Behind the Lens” in 2012.  He also held two photo exhibits at Huntley Meadows Park during 2013 and 2015.

Curtis’ prime interest in photography is nature, especially wildlife.  He has visited many places in the country with other photographers, NVPS, NANPA, and takes part in the yearly Delmarva Nature & Wildlife Photography Summit in Chincoteague, Virginia.  He also takes many trips on his own for one day, three-day weekend excursions and weeklong trips.  The usual locations are Leesylvania State Park, Blackwater, Bombay Hook, and Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuges, Huntington Beach State Park in Myrtle Beach, Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge, and many locations in Florida, especially the Anhinga Trail. He was a park volunteer for ten years at hisfavorite photography location, Huntley Meadows Park.
