We’re starting the new year with a visit to one of the most iconic rail history destinations in the country: the B&O Railroad Museum in Baltimore. Housed in the historic 1884 Roundhouse, the museum features beautifully restored locomotives, vintage railcars, historic platforms, and industrial-era details that make for outstanding photographic opportunities. From sweeping architectural lines to intricate mechanical textures, this location offers something for every photographer—whether you enjoy wide‑angle compositions, detail studies, or documentary-style storytelling.

The museum’s indoor exhibits make this an excellent winter field trip, and the outdoor rail yard provides additional opportunities if the weather cooperates.

More information about the museum can be found here: https://www.borail.org/. You will find inspiration from the many images as you explore the museum website, as well as viewing the pictures from the NVPS February 2018 visit to the museum at B and O Railroad Museum – February – Northern Virginia Photographic Society.
