Fotofax – President’s Letter – April 2022
It’s been two years since the start of the Covid pandemic. NVPS has adapted to the challenges and continued to thrive through it all due to our members and volunteers’ commitment. We need to celebrate that spirit and our achievements as photographers. We will do so for the 2021-2022 club year, however, instead of having a traditional dinner, we will meet by Zoom on Friday, June 10th to announce the awards. Then on Sunday, June 12th we will have a celebration at Burke Lake Park. We’ve reserved a sheltered picnic area; the other details still need to be worked out. It will be wonderful to see one another, so please mark your calendars!
On Sunday, March 13th, the NVPS operations and tech team did a “proof of concept” test of a hybrid technology solution from the firehouse, while others joined by Zoom. Various scenarios were tested and overall, it was very successful. I want to express my enormous gratitude to Mike Whalen, Frank Napoli, Jeff Hancock and the team for all their efforts and the loan of equipment to make this a reality! With some Covid protocols in place, including, but not limited to, mandatory masking, vaccination according to CDC guidelines, and social distancing, our goal is to hold a few hybrid meetings from the firehouse prior to the end of the club year.
In other news, we begin the month on April 5th with a presentation on tips for creating amazing ultra-high-definition time-lapse photography with Mark Kettenhofen. On April 12th we have our first formal Portfolio Project review with Cynthia Keith.
April 19th, we have an open themed competition with Judge Nicol Hockett. The field trip on April 9th will be to photograph the Monuments at Night.
Mary O’Neill and Greg Smith will be presenting their Member’s Galleries on April 26th. The evening will end with Jim Sinsheimer’s Member’s Forum, “The Art of Building Photography”.
Finally, Mid-Atlantic Photo Visions (MAPV) is looking for volunteers to fill several key positions. They are listed on the MAPV website at volunteer opportunities. As with NVPS, MAPV is only possible through the hard work and dedication of volunteers from the participating camera clubs.
