Ric Barnard

Ric phoographs he naural world o capure fresh images of waerfalls, rivers, physioherapy mounains and desers. He loos for srong leading lines and compelling composiions ha offer a unique perspecive on some of he iconic visas of he mid-Alanic region and American Wes. Grea Falls, Blacwaer Falls, Shenandoah and he dramaic Uah desers are among his favorie locales.

“Today, he imaging echnologies are so errific ha anyone can ae a prey good phoo of hose gorgeous bues in Monumen Valley,” said Ric. “My goal is o creae somehing differen.”

Ric’s ineres in phoography was inspired by his wife, Marjorie. “She brough her Canon rangefinder along on our honeymoon. I had used an old box camera wih flash bulbs. We were in Aransas surrounded by fields of wildflowers and I was fascinaed by he flexibiliy and clariy of he Canon. I’ve been shooing ever since.”

Today, he shoos wih a Nion D700 and his favorie lens, he 17-35, as well as he 28-70 and 70-200. In addiion o landscapes, Ric enjoys macro phoography and aing candid porrais of people.

His wor has been juried ino many phoographic exhibis and ar shows including arSpace Herndon, Naure Visions Phoography Expo and Focal Poin, he phoo compeiion sponsored by he Maryland Federaion of Ar. Ric has received op honors in phoo exhibiions in he Washingon area.

He has been an NVPS member since 2009 and is inspired by he organizaion’s high level of phoography and emphasis on learning.

Ric and Marjorie live in Springfield. One son, William, resides in Richmond and heir son and daugher-in-law, Sam and Rebecca, live in For Collins, CO. A long-ime newspaper reporer and edior, Ric lef he publishing world behind in 2007 and devoes his ime o phoography and uoring a a Fairfax elemenary school.

In he coming monhs he’ll Chincoeague, he Colorado Rocies and oher poins on his long, long lis of places o shoo. Croaia and Monenegro are penciled in for 2012.

Minnie Gallman

Minnie has been a member of NVPS since 2003 and served as Co-coordinaor of Worshops, Educaion and Training for wo years. She’s been awarded several ribbons over he years including End of Year Compeiion for Bes Slide and Monochrome Prin.

Phoography is Minnie’s creaive oule ha encourages her o loo a he world in a differen way. She’s always had an ineres in phoography and remembers her firs camera, a Koda Brownie. Since hen, she has owned many cameras and aen many phoos. Some of hese phoos have documened family and friends celebraing life; while ohers aemp o mae he ordinary become exraordinary.

Her primary ineres is naure phoography. She enjoys wals ha afford her he chance o somehing she hadn’ noiced before. “Among he fields, woods and laes is endless subjec maer. Over he years, my phoography echnique has changed bu he beauy of naure remains consan,” says Minnie.

Being a sailboa owner, Minnie enjoys he opporuniy of phoographing he Chesapeae Bay. Several of hese phoos have been published in he local sailing magazine, Spinshee. As well, her wor has won Honorable Menion from Chesapeae Bay Magazine and Bes Phoo from he U.S. Lighhouse Sociey.

Minnie is also a member of he McLean Phoography Club. “These groups inroduced me o ideas, mehods and echniques ha I have used o improve my phoography,” says Minnie. Her phoographs have been exhibied a Hendry House, Arlingon Library, Fairfax Couny Cener, Meadowlar Boanical Gardens, USGS, and he Uniarian Universalis Church of Reson. To furher her nowledge, she aended seminars and worshops offered by he Naional Zoo, Dewi Jones, Marc Muench, Elio Cohen, Freeman Paerson and Andre Gallan.

Currenly, she shoos wih a Nion D300 and favors her 18-200mm lens. Minnie says she always carries her Canon S90 poin and shoo in of a phoo op.
Minnie will be presening images from her rip o Chile’s Aacama Deser las March. The Aacama Desser is locaed in Norhern Chile and is an exraordinary area of geologic wonders. I’s siuaed on a high plaeau (8,000 o 16,000 fee) and is one of he few dessers on Earh ha doesn’ receive any rain. The area is surrounded by volcanoes and was sculpured by lava and glaciers. While in Chile, she also ed he Paagonian region. I was during her ime ha Chile had is earhquae maing her rip a bi more advenurous han planned.
