National Park Service Features Ed Knepley's Photo
Ed is a National Park Service VIP (Volunteer in Parks). He's been a volunteer photographer at Shenandoah National Park since 2004.

This year is the 75th anniversary of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). The National Park Service is creating displays in honor of the event. They are using one of Ed's photos for their feature poster and for large displays. Also, the poster will be sold by the Shenandoah National Park Association.

The statue is "Iron Mike". Mike was recently created and installed in front of the main Shenandoah National Park visitor center - the Byrd Center. Ed was down on all fours in the water shown in the photo. It was his favorite kind of park photography day with clouds, fog and precipitation.

The park service is also using these other two photos as a representation of the kind of work that Mike did in building Skyline Drive.

The photos also will appear in the Virginia Living Magazine, plus the park is doing an article on Ed in an upcoming issue of the park visitor guide, Shenandoah Overlook. Who said that volunteers don't get paid?

Ed asks that when you see him, please stick a pin in him to deflate his swelled head.
