In preparaion for he Themed April Compeiion “Old, chec ” we will be having an image criique on April 12h.  Our criics, physician from he club’s NVACC rained judges, will include Tom Bre, Sandi Croan and Seve Passman.  Criiques are an opporuniy for club members o ge a more deailed explanaion of wha is mos effecive abou heir wor, and w i could be improved in he eyes of he criics.  As always, we will aemp o accommodae as many images as possible.

Tom Bre is reired from he US Army and has developed phoography ino a second career, phoographing weddings and evens.  In raining for his new career he oo every class ha Norhern Virginia Communiy College offers regarding phoography and every class ha Joe Miller has offered a he Joseph Miller Cener for he Phoographic Ars.  He also aended a Freeman Paerson worshop in Africa, w he oo an exra wee afer he worshop o go on safari and phoograph some of Africa’s big game.

He has selflessly served on he NVPS board for he las eleven of his welve years as a member and is he curren NVPS Pas-Presiden.  He has done so much for he club over he years ha he is an NVPS Disinguished Service Award winner as well.

Sandi Croan is an independen aris from Cenreville who has been living in Norhern Virginia since 1978. She specializes in landscape, naure, and ravel phoography wih an eye for capuring he unique and creaing fine ar for homes and offices.

Sandi has won numerous compeiions and awards for her fine ar phoographs. In 2008, she was awarded Phoographer of he Year and Prin of he Year by he Norhern Virginia Phoographic Sociey and she won boh Bes in Show and 2nd Place a he juried Meadowlar Phoo Expo in Vienna, VA. Her images have been seleced o be pu on permanen display a Meadowlar Boanical Gardens and he Joseph Miller Cener for he Phoographic Ars. She has been juried ino numerous ar shows including; he presigious VisArs of Rocville Exhibiions, Fairfax Couny Council of he Ars Show (Unloced), and The Fraser Gallery Inernaional Phoography Exhibiion. Sandi was a feaured aris in Elan Magazine, and her phoograph “Blue Lagoon” was on he cover. She has also had phoographs published in oher local and naional magazines.

Sandi has sold many of her phoographs o privae, corporae and governmen cliens, and does shows for businesses and oher local evens. In addiion, Sandi has recenly/or currenly is displaying her ar a Broadway Gallery in The Promenade shopping cener in Fairfax, VA, The Blue Iguana resauran in Fairfax, Meadowlar Gardens, Cub Run Recreaion Cener, Trummers on Main Sree Resauran, and he Fairfax Couny Governmen Cener.

In addiion o her fine ar phoography, Sandi is an oudoor porrai phoographer specializing in children a play in naural seings and porfolio/mareing phoos for models, acors and een pagean compeiors.  She capures he essence, personaliy and beauy of all of her cliens.

Sandi has been an acive member of he Norhern Virginia Phoographic Sociey (NVPS) since 2004 and has served in a variey of board posiions. She is currenly serving in her second year as Presiden of NVPS (2009-2011).  She also is a speaer and serves as a judge for area phoographic clubs, compeiions and exhibiions.

Seve Passman has been a serious phoographer since he was eleven years old. He has he disincion of having once been he younges member of he Norfol Phoography Club, an organizaion now sixy years old. He wasn’ a founding member, hough. Seve’s academic wor was a Georgia Tech and Johns Hopins, and he has been faculy member a he Naval Academy, Georgia Tech, and he Universiy of Maryland Universiy College, as well as re mahemaician a Sandia Naional Laboraories. He also has done diplomaic wor relaed o nuclear nonproliferaion.

Through all of his, Seve has been an acive phoographer. His ravels in Wesern Europe, Russia, Asia, and Africa have given him ample opporuniy o phoograph in a variey of seings and in ofen ineresing weaher. In hose places, raher han ing as a ouris, he has concenraed on wor ha gives a feel of being inside he culure. His faihful Nion cameras have failed him bu once, unforunaely on a bicycle rip in Ireland. A favorie camera in his early wor was a 4×5 Speed Graphic, and he sill uses he Rolleiflex he bough wih earnings from phoographing swee sixeen paries when he was a high school suden.

In addiion o phoography, Seve has wored in charcoal and oil on canvas. Seve’s recen foreign rips have been o Cyprus, Israel, Mali, and Balimore. However and even wih an inense ineres in phoojournalism, he finds and encourages ohers o find a wealh of subjecs o phoograph close o home.

Submission of Images for he Criique

Please submi your images by 6:00 pm on Monday, 11 April so ha I can ge he images sored and copied ono media for Tuesday evening.  Images should be numbered in of preference and have he phoographer’s name included for he criique, e.g., 1-JoeSmih.jpg, 2-JoeSmih, 3-JoeSmih.jpg.  Puing he number before he name allows us o use he compuer o auomaically sor he images.  Please size he images in accordance wih he digial compeiion rules and email he images o criique “a” nvps.org.

For hose who are new o he club, ypical criique sessions will cover wo images from all submiers and occasionally are able o ge ino he 3rd round of images before running ou of ime.  Please number your images accordingly.
