October Message from the President - Sandi Croan - Northern Virginia Photographic Society

It was very exciting to kick off the 2009 - 2010 NVPS club year on September 1. Many of us met early in the morning at USGS in Reston to bring our photographs for our exhibit that will be up until September 30th. We greeted each other like long lost relatives. It was great to catch up after summer break. On Friday, September 11th we hosted a lovely reception at USGS. Many thanks to John Quigley and all the helpers that made the exhibit and reception possible, beautiful, and delicious. If you haven't seen it yet, I highly recommend a quick trip out there to see all the magnificent work of our members.

That evening was our 1st official club meeting. It was wonderful to see everyone mingling and happy to be back. New Board Members introduced their Programs, Workshop/Education and Trainings, Judges, Members Gallery, Forums, Field Trips, Portfolio Project, etc that were coming up this month and in the near future.

As of this writing, it has been a busy and educational month so far. Your board members are busy making sure that they have the most educational and fun activities of any club in this area. Please remember to thank them for their hard work.

To our new and prospective members - I am always amazed at the number of new folks that arrive on a weekly basis. Welcome to you all! Please feel free to approach any board member (the ones with the printed name tags) with questions or just to chat. Come to meetings, go on field trips, volunteer... you will be amazed at how fast you will grow!

Mark your 2010 calendars. Friday, June 11th will be the NVPS End of Year Banquet. This last event of the club year is host to the EOY competition and awards ceremony with a lovely buffet dinner. You will be hearing more about this later in the year.

On a serious note... the flu is starting in our area. Please be considerate and stay home if you are ill or feel like you are getting sick. We have many members (or family of members) in frail health that cannot afford to get sick.
