Field Trips
Feb 1st, 2009 - Field Trip: Longwood Gardens Conservatory, Kennett Square, PA
Date: Sunday, Feb 1, 2009 Departure Time: 6:30 a.m. (car pooling from Dunn Loring) Meet at Longwood Ticket Office by 9:00 a.m. Photo shoot until Noon (can stay until Garden closure at 5:00pm) Group discounted admission is $12 ($11 for seniors 62+) As this field trip is being scheduled for mid-winter, we will focus almost entirely on the display areas of Longwood's Conservatory. The conservatory is one of the world's great greenhouse structures. It shelters 20 indoor gardens and 5,500 types of plants. The Conservatory was built in 1919 and has been periodically expanded and renovated. At present, there are 195,668 square feet--or 4.5 acres--of covered display, production, and research greenhouses. During our visit, Longwood will be holding its Orchid extravaganza (from January 24th through March 31st). During that time, thousands of orchid blooms will fill the Conservatory. Innovative displays, including a spectacular Living Wall of Orchids will also be featured. Visit http://www.longwoodgardens.org/default.html to learn more about the history of the garden as well information regarding the horticultural highlights. Longwood's regulations regarding photography are as follows: Personal photography and video are permitted at Longwood Gardens. All photographers must sign a permission form indicating that any photographs or video/film footage taken at Longwood will not be used for promoting commercial products or services. Sessions are limited to garden photography, not wedding photography, individual or family portraits, product photography, or portfolio photography for aspiring models. Photography sessions must not interfere with the enjoyment of Longwood's other guests. Tripods are allowed in the Gardens daily from 9:00 am-12:00 noon. You must fill out a permission form and receive a tripod tag from the information Desk. In an effort to accommodate all visitors safely at Longwood, tripods users are asked to remove their tripods by noon each day.
