Northern Virginia Photographic Society
Northern Virginia Alliance of Camera Clubs

The Alliance is an informal organization started in the spring of 1997 by Joseph Miller with the assistance of Dave Carter and Ed Funk. It's purpose is to promote communication and cooperation among camera clubs. Joe Miller's workshops first showed us the value of the interaction that takes place between members of different clubs. We also realized that the work effort of club field trip leaders could be reduced, while opportunities for members increased through inter-club field trips. The original six member clubs are the International Photographic Society, the Manassas-Warrenton Camera Club, the McLean Camera Club, the North Bethesda Camera Club, the Northern Virginia Photographic Society, and the Vienna Photographic Society. They were joined subsequently by the Loudoun Photography Club and the Reston Photographic Society bringing the member club total to eight. The Alliance charges no dues.

The Alliance publishes a series of informational books on a variety of photographic subjects. These publications are available to anyone at production cost. Each year the Alliance publishes a "Directory of Speakers and Judges." The directory which identifies some 150 recommended speakers and/or judges by photographic speciality, is available only to member clubs.

The Alliance conducts educational workshops and critiques, primarily in the areas of creativity and visual design. Through it's activities the Alliance strives to be "a school of photography" for serious camera club photographers.

Each Virginia member club agrees to publish in its newsletter a calendar of open-events for the current month held at other Virginia member clubs.
