Greetings to all of you. This has been a summer like no other in our collective memory, and the 2020-21 Club year promises to be among the most challenging in our 55-year history. I have no doubt we are up to the challenge.
In a normal summer, Board members would be enjoying time off from Club responsibilities. We would be traveling, taking classes and trying, as you are, to become better photographers. Instead, this summer we have been busy preparing for the new Club year, and we have made tremendous progress. We have booked speakers and judges, scheduled education and training activities, identified locations for field trips, investigated ways to market the Club, improved our outreach to new members, and updated materials.
We have also been busy learning new ways to bring Club meetings to you. Since we cannot meet in person, we will be meeting via Zoom. As a member, you will automatically receive invitations to each meeting, including links to the Zoom connection. We will hold our first meeting on September 1, and are delighted to announce that Nikhil Bahl will be our speaker. Nikhil has been a friend of the club for years, has served as judge at our End-of-Year Banquets, and has spoken at Club meetings. We look forward to having Nikhil kick off our Club year with his presentation: “Photographic Voice and Vision.” In addition to Nikhil, we have booked Mollie Isaacs, Joe Rossbach, Marie Joabar, Emily Carter Mitchell, Colleen Miniuk and Robert Fawcett.
Members will give presentations this year on Bird Photography, Photoshop Layers, Photoshop Workflow, Planning Travel for Photography, Travels in Cambodia and Vietnam, India’s Golden Triangle, Water Photography, Nine Days in Cuba, Bears of Brook Falls, the Go West Road Trip, Cold Places, Abstract Photography, Yellowstone, Honor and Remembrance, and Egypt, among other topics.
We will also continue our monthly competitions and the popular Portfolio, Members’ Forum, Ask Me a Question, Review My Image and Members’ Gallery series. Finally, we look forward to holding our annual End of Year Banquet and competition. We may not be able to meet in person, but we will be able to share the spirit of NVPS and the companionship of our friends and colleagues.
My thanks to you for being a member of NVPS. Welcome to an exciting year!
